Rookie pitchers Eric Skoglund and Dinelson Lamet thrive in their initial MLB looks

MLB: Detroit Tigers at Kansas City Royals Jay Biggerstaff-USA TODAY Sports

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Gameday discussion thread for Wednesday, May 31st, 2017. Let’s get started.

****Today’s Minor League Scoreboard

****Today’s MLB scoreboard

****Yesterday’s Highlights can be found in the Tuesday discussion thread.

COOL STUFF THAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY (and today)

****Kansas City Royals rookie Eric Skoglund performed brilliantly in his major league debut against the Detroit Tigers, pitching 6.1 innings without allowing a run, giving up two hits and one walk while fanning five. Of particular note: he topped out at 94.7 MPH with his four-seamer, about two MPH higher than the maximum velocity report I had from the Pacific Coast League. If he sustains that he could very well exceed expectations, given that he has a full assortment of secondaries and sharp control.

****San Diego Padres right-hander Dinelson Lamet was strong in his second MLB start, holding the Chicago Cubs to two runs in five innings, with five hits, one walk, and eight strikeouts.

****New York Yankees pitching prospect Chance Adams had an excellent start earlier today, throwing six shutout innings with 12 strikeouts and just one hit allowed for Triple-A Scranton in a morning contest against Columbus in early bird International League action. Adams now has a 1.24 ERA in 58 innings with a 59/22 K/BB ratio.
