Three key prospect injuries to be aware of this morning:
James Kaprielian, RHP, Yankees: New York Yankees pitching prospect James Kaprielian is experiencing discomfort in his right elbow and has been placed on the disabled list at High-A Tampa. An MRI is scheduled. He missed most of the 2016 season with elbow discomfort and while surgery was avoided last year, the current injury does not bode well.
Jose De Leon, RHP, Rays: Tampa Bay prospect Jose De Leon will open the season on the Triple-A Durham disabled list with “flexor mass discomfort” according to Marc Tompkin at the Tampa Bay Times. Reportedly the discomfort has already cleared up but the Rays are being cautious and giving him extra time to work his way back.
Domingo Leyba, INF, Diamondbacks: Arizona infield prospect Domingo Leyba has a shoulder injury, with a tear in the anterior capsule of his right shoulder according to Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. Surgery will not be required, but he’ll miss up to two months. Leyba hit .310/.333/.414 in 29 at-bats for the Diamondbacks in spring training and was ticketed to open the season with Double-A Jackson of the Southern League.
