Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Gameday discussion thread for Wednesday, April 12, 2017. Let’s hit it.
****Chicago White Sox pitching prospect Reynaldo Lopez fanned 10 over 5.1 innings of work for Triple-A Charlotte. He also walked four and gave up four hits and four runs, but reportedly hit 98 MPH.
****New York Mets first base prospect Dominic Smith went 4-for-6 for Triple-A Las Vegas and is now hitting .444 in his first six games.
***Two homers yesterday for St. Louis Cardinals catching prospect Carson Kelly for Triple-A Memphis.
****Texas Rangers pitching prospect Connor Sadzeck threw five shutout innings for Double-A Frisco, fanning nine, walking nobody, and allowing only one hit.
****Houston Astros prospect Forrest Whitley was lights-out in his debut in the Low-A Midwest League, throwing five shutout innings for Quad Cities against Peoria, walking two, allowing one hit, and fanning six.
****Joe Clarkin at Beyond the Boxscore notes that Joey Gallo of the Rangers is even more aggressive this year. Maybe that’s some kind of zen or Jedi thing, embracing the strikeouts.
****Chris Mitchell at Fangraphs has a “mostly restrained” examination of Manuel Margot’s hot start for the San Diego Padres.
****The Cincinnati Reds spent $4,750,000 to sign Cuban right-hander Vladimir Gutierrez last fall. Ben Badler at Baseball America has a scouting report from Gutierrez’s first start for High-A Daytona.
