Extra inning rules changes on the way?

Good morning everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball daily discussion thread for Thursday, February 9th, 2017. Today I am continuing work on the Top 175 prospects list. I have spots 1 through 100 locked down. I want to get 101 through 175 in rough form today then ready to finalize tomorrow. This list may be up this weekend but Monday will be the more probable day.

I will be doing a video blog on what it was like to meet Bob Feller later today.

Discussion topic for you: yesterday, Jeff Passan at Yahoo Sports (among others) reported that MLB will be testing a new rule in rookie ball this year: starting a runner at second base to open extra innings. The idea has “wide-ranging support at the highest levels of the league” according to Passan, the powers-that-be seeing this as a way to speed games up.

I am not a pure traditionalist when it comes to rules. I grew up with the DH and don’t mind it, and I have supported new ideas like the pitch clock. But this runner-at-second base thing. . .ugh. I hate this idea. I can see it perhaps being used at the start of the 15th inning in an attempt to preserve pitching staffs, but using it in the 10th inning? No.

No, no, no, no. That’s my opinion. No.

What do you guys think?
