The baseball world woke to shocking news Sunday: Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez was killed in a boating accident early this morning in Florida.
Fishstripes, SB Nation's Miami Marlins blog, has detailed coverage of the tragedy.
Fernandez was 24 years old. One of the top young stars in Major League Baseball, Fernandez was exceptionally successful in 2016, going 16-8 in 29 starts with a 2.86 ERA and an outstanding 253 strikeouts in 182 innings. We will have a full Prospect Retrospective for Fernandez tomorrow.
For today, the Minor League Ball staff wishes to express our deepest condolences to Fernandez's family, his friends, his teammates, and the entire Miami Marlins organization and their fans.
