Minor League Ball Gameday, Thursday, September 1st

New, 93 comments

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Friday, September 1st edition of Minor League Ball Gameday. Some items worthy of attention today:

****As you've likely heard, the Red Sox will promote phenom Yoan Moncada to the major league roster tomorrow. We will have a full profile for him tomorrow morning.

****Rosters for the 2016 Arizona Fall League have been released. We will have lots more about this in the coming weeks as the AFL approaches.

****In his first start since being demoted back to Triple-A Rochester, Minnesota Twins right-hander Jose Berrios blew away Syracuse yesterday, fanning 14 in eight innings of work, allowing one walk, five hits, and three runs. This boosts his performance for the Red Wings to 10-5 in 17 starts with a 2.51 ERA and a 125/36 K/BB in 111 innings with a mere 74 hits allowed.

Obviously he's too good for Triple-A, but the majors have been a different matter: 9.24 ERA in 37 innings with 50 hits allowed and a 35/23 K/BB.

If you were the Twins, how would you handle Berrios? Rochester still has a chance at the International League wild card slot. If they get it, do you keep Berrios in the minors? If not, do you call him back up to the majors for September, and if so do you use him as a starter or reliever down the stretch?
