Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Gameday discussion thread for Friday, August 5th. Here are some items worthy of your notice today:
****San Diego Padres prospect Manuel Margot had a helluva game yesterday: 5-for-6 with two homers, four RBI, four runs scored. On the season he's now hitting .313/.362/.454 for Triple-A El Paso with 19 doubles, 10 triples, six homers, 24 steals, and a 24/40 BB/K ratio in 403 at-bats.
That's a fine performance for a 21-year-old in Triple-A, although keep in mind that the park/league context is VERY friendly: every single regular in the Chihuahuas lineup is hitting over .300 and Margot's OPS is just eighth among players with 100 or more at-bats for El Paso this year. On the other hand, Margot is also the youngest regular and his defense in center field has drawn strong reviews. He's certainly worthy of a September call-up.
****Cleveland Indians prospect Francisco Mejia has now hit in 46 consecutive games.
****Don't forget Carson Cistulli's weekly Fringe Five at Fangraphs (say that five times really fast).
