Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the Minor League Ball Gameday discussion thread for Wednesday, August 31st. Here are a few items worthy of your attention today.
****Tuesday was a fun day for Pittsburgh Pirates prospects, with right-hander Mitch Keller throwing six shutout innings with seven strikeouts in his High-A debut and outfielder Austin Meadows going 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBI for Triple-A Indianapolis.
****This happened a couple of days ago, but New York Yankees prospect Clint Frazier has hit the disabled list at Triple-A Scranton with a pulled hamstring. He's hit just .222/.279/.375 in 24 games since being traded from the Cleveland Indians in the Andrew Miller deal and Frazier recently admitted that he had pressed since the trade according to Brendan Kuty at NJ.com.
****Los Angeles Angels rookie Jefry Marte is hitting .321 with three homers in his last 10 games for the Angels and currently stands at .257/.300/.481 on the year with 11 homers in 187 at-bats. Marte has been on prospect lists since late in the George W. Bush administration and is often a forgotten guy when young players are discussed, but the 25 year old has boosted his power production over the last two seasons and is holding his own in the majors. Seems like someone who could have a nice surge in his late 20s.
****At Beyond the Boxscore, Ryan Romano looks at Washington Nationals rookie Trea Turner and asks, "is he really this good?" Romano delves deep into the pitch F/x data to find out.
