Here's the Minor League Ball Gameday thread for July 31st, 2016.
****Seven shutout innings for St. Louis Cardinals prospect Austin Gomber yesterday in his second Double-A start for Springfield in the Texas League. Interesting snippet from the Milb.com game report:
"I was able to get ahead with my fastball," Gomber said. "I didn't have the curveball that I usually have to put guys away with. I felt like that was something I struggled with tonight, but I was able to get quick outs and the defense played great behind me."
Winning without your best stuff; always a good sign.
****The Twins have promoted right-hander Jose Berrios from Triple-A and he will make the start tomorrow for Minnesota against the Cleveland Indians. Berrios was 10-5 in 16 starts for Triple-A Rochester with a 111/35 K/BB in 103 innings with a mere 69 hits allowed. Berrios had problems during his four-start trial earlier in the year but has continued to dominate Triple-A and has nothing left to prove down there. The Twins should just stick him in the rotation the rest of the year and let him adapt.
