I am now working on the Philadelphia Phillies Top 20 prospects list for 2017. The next team in line is the Boston Red Sox, to be followed by the Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers,Oakland Athletics, New York Mets, and the Baltimore Orioles.
Use this thread to discuss the Boston Red Sox organization. Some possible points for discussion include, but are certainly not limited to:
****The Red Sox finished 93-69 in 2016, first place in the American League Eastern Division. As you now this has been a busy off-season for Boston so far, with hot prospects Yoan Moncada and Michael Kopech plus Travis Shaw and four other prospects being shipped off to the White Sox and Brewers for Chris Sale and Tyler Thornburg.
The Sox reportedly refused to include Andrew Benintendi in such a trade. Did they make the right call there? Is Benintendi a better prospect than Moncada?
****With the transactions in mind, how many games do you expect the Red Sox to win in 2017? Will anything less than a World Series appearance be a disappointment?
****Have Mookie Betts and Xander Bogaerts reached their full potential? If not, how good could they actually become?
****Assuming Benintendi holds a regular outfield job all year, what's his slash line? And what's his slash line in the year 2020?
****The trades have thinned the farm system. Would you be comfortable with more trades, or should they pause to recharge?
****True or False? Marco Hernandez deserves a lot more attention than he's received and will emerge as a major league regular within two years.
****As always, feel free to discuss sleeper prospects or anything else Red Sox-oriented.
