The 2015 Arizona Fall League has been running for a week now, still a tiny sample of course but there are at least more tidbits of news to track.
***Jim Callis at MLB.com has notes on Diamondbacks right-hander Yoan Lopez, Brewers right-hander Adrian Houser, and Cardinals right-hander Luke Weaver. Callis notes Lopez's mediocre performance in his second outing, observing a fastball up to 94 MPH but with pedestrian secondary offerings including a so-so slider and a below-average change-up. Houser and Weaver were more impressive. As with everything else Jim Callis writes, the article is worth your time.
***Big boppers in the early going include Chicago Cubs prospect Jeimer Candelario (10-for-15 with three homers), Oakland Athletics third base prospect Renato Nunez (6-for-21 but with three homers), and Cleveland Indians outfield prospect Clint Frazier (6-for-16 with two homers). Kansas City Royals prospect Bubba Starling is putting his tools to good use thus far with an 8-for-20 line, two homers, two walks, and just three strikeouts to this point.
***New York Yankees pitching prospect Ian Clarkin missed the entire regular season with an elbow injury but looked healthy, if a little rusty, in his first AFL start. He had originally been slated to attend instructional league but made enough progress over the summer to land an assignment in Arizona instead.
