Minor League Ball Gameday: Thursday, March 13

Good afternoon folks and welcome back. The big news of the prospect world was the absolute MAMMOTH blast off the bat of Cubs short stop Javier Baez. (Watch the blast here) Solid pimp job from Baez as that thing landed 15 ft shy of the scoreboard in left. A pair of Cardinals continue to be red hot in Kolten Wong and Stephen Piscotty. Wong, not known for bringing the thunder, hit his second home run in three days. Piscotty tallied a pair of extra base knocks with a double and triple along with a walk and two runs scored with one run batted in. Nick Castellanos also stayed hot for Detroit by hitting a pair of doubles in their tie with the Yankees.

Only a handful of Top 100 pitchers made appearances but it would have been hard to top Yordano Ventura's dominance. The diminutive righty threw 4.1 innings while only allowing two hits and one run. He struck out six, did not allow a walk against Oakland and drew praise from his potential manager, Ned Yost.  The Padres Matt Wisler made a one inning relief appearance, allowing a hit with a strike out. Marcus Stroman of the Blue Jays was knocked around a bit over four frames. The Rays tagged him for three runs on five hits and a walk with three strike outs.

Outside the Top 100, Mike Olt left the yard twice for his second and third big flies of the spring. He seems to be seeing the ball very well, which complicates the infield situation in Chicago even more for the future. Outfielder Matt Long of the Angels just keeps on raking, getting two more hits (including his fifth double) and was also plunked in the Halo's 12 run outburst. Others to leave the yard include Chris Colabello and Aaron Hicks of the Twinkies, Rob Brantly of the Marlins, and Zoilo Almonte of the Yankees
