Game Recaps from Tuesday, November 4th

Glendale 7 - Surprise 3

RF Steven Moya (GDD) was the man of the hour, putting the Desert Dogs on his back in their 7-3 win over the Saguaros. He finished a triple short of the cycle, blasting his fourth homer, fifth double, drove in and scored three times, and he even stole his fifth base of the Fall. DH Scott Schebler (GDD) and C Kevan Smith (GDD) pitched in a double each for their only hits and both scored once and struck out while Smith also drove in one and drew a walk. DH Jace Peterson (SUR) tallied three hits in the contest with a double and two singles, scoring once, driving in one, and stealing his sixth base. RF Nick Williams (SUR) singled a pair of times and drove in one while SS Deven Marrero (SUR) scored two times after being plunked and knocking a single. 3B Hector Gomez (GDD) stole his first base after reaching on a single and was hit by a pitch, also coming around to score. SS Tim Anderson (GDD) and CF Tyrone Taylor (GDD) had identical lines with each player hitting a single, working a walk, and striking out. Taylor added an outfield assist by gunning down a runner at third base.

The Desert Dogs received four innings of work from starting pitcher RHP Zach Davies (GDD) who worked around five hits with no free passes and two strike outs, earning his second win. RHP Tyler Wagner (GDD) and RHP Mychal Givens (GDD) added four more scoreless frames, two a piece, to seal the deal. Surprise went with RHP Stephen Landazuri (SUR) for this one and he took home his fourth loss, leading the AFL in that dubious distinction. He allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk through five frames. He also uncorked a pair of wild pitches, hit a batter, and struck out four on the day.

Peoria 5 - Scottsdale 2

Despite allowing an astounding 12 walks in the game, the Peoria pitching staff held on for a 5-2 win over Scottsdale and was led by the Javelinas throwing a crooked number up in the first frame. 3B Jacob Wilson (PEJ) plated two with a double and a single, scoring once and making a fielding error. SS Raul Mondesi (PEJ) also had a multi-hit day, slapping a pair of singles, scoring once after stealing a base.and also getting caught trying to steal a second one. DH Francisco Lindor (PEJ) singled and drew a walk, scoring once, striking out and also getting nabbed on the bases. 2B Tony Wolters (PEJ) reached base twice as well with a walk and a single, driving in one and going down with a K twice. Four different Scottsdale players reached base three times a piece but were only able to get one of those players to score just one time with that player being CF Roman Quinn (SCO). Quinn singled and worked two walks while 1B Josh Bell (SCO) walked three times, C Elias Diaz (SCO) walked twice and had an RBI single, and DH LJ Mazzilli (SCO) singled and walked two times as well. 2B Kelby Tomlinson (SCO) stole his seventh base while going 0-3 with a walk, and 3B Blake Miller (SCO) also stole one, walked, singled, and scored once.

RHP Tyrell Jenkins (PEJ) earned the win with three innings of one run ball, dancing around three walks and five hits while also striking out one. RHP Sam Tuivailala (PEJ) worked the save with a clean 9th, walking one batter for his third save. LHP Tom Harlan (SCO) was the losing pitcher after allowing three runs to score in just an inning of work, walking two with three hits and a strike out to move his record to 0-3 for the Fall. RHP Nefi Ogando (SCO) and LHP Steven Okert (SCO) each struck out two and gave up a hit in an inning of relief in the losing effort.

Mesa 3 - Salt River 1

The nightcap featured a lot of offense in the first inning then was a pitchers duel to the finish line. DH Dan Vogelbach (MSS) did all the damage with a three-run single, also kicking in a double later on in the game. C Pedro Severino (MSS) also doubled and singled while 3B Jon Berti (MSS) reached twice on two walks with two strike outs as well. RF Chad Hinshaw (MSS) picked up his seventh stolen base, and 2B Tony Renda (MSS) went 1-4 with a walk, a run scored, a fielding error, and he struck out looking three times before getting the boot for arguing balls and strikes. C Peter O'Brien (SRR) provided the majority of the Rafters offense, going 3-4 with a double, two singles and an RBI. 2B Taylor Featherston (SRR) and LF Joe Sclafani (SRR) had the only other hits, both singling once with Featherston also drawing a free pass. SS Trevor Story (SRR) didn't do anything at the plate going 0-4 with a strike out and he also made his seventh error of the Fall by sailing a throw to first.

LHP Felipe Rivero (MSS) was on point for the Solar Sox, surrendering just one hit and one walk with one run scoring in five innings. He struck out four, threw two wild pitches, and earned his second win of the AFL. LHP Chris O'Grady (MSS) got the save by dancing around a hit and two walks in the ninth, striking out one with no runs scoring. RHP Vincent Velasquez (SRR) took the loss after recording only two out in his start, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk with one strike out.
