Game Recaps from Wednesday, November 12th
Mesa 6 - Peoria 5 (11 innings)
A back and forth affair ended with a walk off blast from Mesa's first baseman in the bottom half of the 11th and final inning. 1B Cal Towey (MSS) made his only hit count, also drawing two walks and scoring once with a strike out in six trips to the plate. RF Bijan Rademacher (MSS) drove in two thirds of the runs for the Solar Sox, hitting a two-run homer in the 5th with a two-run single and walk to end with four RBI and a run scored. 3B Jon Berti (MSS) reached base four times with a pair of walks and two singles, scoring once with two stolen bases. CF Chad Hinshaw (MSS) came in after CF Dalton Pompey (MSS) left early with a minor head injury in the first inning. Pompey singled and stole second base, hitting his head on the ground in the process, and was lifted for precautionary reasons. Hinshaw went 2-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in his stead, also getting hit by a pitch. RF Edward Salcedo (PEJ) hit a solo shot to tie the game in the 9th inning and also singled and walked, scoring three runs total. C Cody Stanley (PEJ) pitched in four singles with two runs batted in while 3B Hunter Dozier (PEJ) finished up going 3-4 with a pair of walks. Dozier also doubled, scored once and knocked in a run with two singles. 2B Tony Wolters (PEJ) also reached base four times with a double, single, and two walks, plating a run and striking out as well. SS Raul Mondesi (PEJ) doubled and scored with a strike out in seven plate appearances and a fielding error while CF CJ McElroy (PEJ) stole a base after being inserted as a pinch runner for Wolters.
RHP CJ Edwards (MSS) tossed three scoreless to start off the Solar Sox, striking out two while scattering a hit and a walk. RHP Neil Holland (MSS) took home the win despite allowing a run in two innings of relief on two hits and two walks, striking out a pair as well. Peoria's starter, RHP Jaime Schultz (PEJ), struggled to find the zone with five walks and two hit batters in four innings. Only one run scored with one hit allowed and no punch outs. RHP Mitch Harris (PEJ) was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs on three hits, including Towey's decisive blow, while also punching out one.

Surprise 8 - Scottsdale 0
The Surprise pitching staff was nearly unhittable, allowing just two hits all game as they blew out the Scorpions 8-0. The offense was led by 1B Patrick Kivlehan (SUR) and DH Nick Williams (SUR) as the duo plated seven of the eight runs in the contest. They both tripled, singled, and scored a run with Kivlehan plating four and drawing a walk with a strike out. Williams drove in three and struck out twice. SS Trea Turner (SUR) wreaked havoc with his legs, stealing a pair of bases after reaching on a pair of singles, scoring three runs total. CF Mallex Smith (SUR) reached base three times on a walk and two singles with a run scored while 2B Jace Peterson (SUR) swiped a bag and scored twice with a single and a walk. 3B DJ Peterson (SUR) returned after some time off to go 1-4 with a double and two punch outs. RF Aaron Judge (SCO) and DH Kyle Higashioka (SCO) tallied the only hits for the Scorpions, both doubling with Higashioka also drawing a walk.
RHP Keith Couch (SUR) started for Surprise and turned in four innings, striking out three with two walks and a hit scattered with no runs crossing the plate. RHP Raisel Iglesias (SUR) scattered a hit and a walk with two strike outs in an inning of relief while LHP Robby Scott (SUR) struck out two in his inning of work with both Iglesias and Scott uncorking wild pitches. RHP Tyler Glasnow (SCO) took the loss after surrendering a pair of runs on three hits and a pair of walks in three innings. He struck out two and dropped his record to 1-2 in the AFL. RHP Nefi Ogando (SCO) turned in the best pitching performance for a Scottsdale pitcher, striking out three in two innings without allowing a free pass or run to score and only one hit.

Glendale 5 - Salt River 4
A costly error to lead off the 9th inning sparked the Desert Dogs to two runs as the came from behind to beat Salt River 5-4. 3B Jason Esposito (GDD) was brought in as a defensive replacement and went on to go 2-3 with a two-run go ahead triple, scoring once and striking out once. DH Scott Schebler (GDD) launched a solo homer, singled, and walked with two runs scored. C Shawn Zarraga (GDD) plated two with a pair of singles and a punch out. RF Max Kepler (SRR) tripled and singled twice with a run scored and a strike out. CF Evan Marzilli (SRR) singled three times and stole a base, scoring once and striking out. 1B Peter O'Brien (SRR) doubled, scored, struck out and made a throwing error while SS Taylor Featherston (SRR) tripled, walked, and scored a run while also striking out.
RHP Mark Appel (SRR) was solid through five, making one big mistake on a solo homer by Schebler, also striking out four with one walk and two more hit allowed. He also hit a batter and induced seven ground outs to two fly outs. RHP Francellis Montas (GDD) opposed him to start and was beat up for four runs in three frames, allowing seven hits and a walk while only striking out two with a hit batter and wild pitch. Neither pitcher factored into the decision as RHP Tyson Perez (SRR) blew the save and took the loss with two unearned runs allowed on three hits in two innings of work. He didn't walk or strike out anyone while LHP Michael Strong (SRR) earned the win with a scoreless frame. Strong struck out one and gave up a hit. RHP Mike Thomas (SRR) got the save with a strike out and two hits allowed.
