The Gameday keeps on rolling into the weekend! Day three is in the books with some impressive offensive performances, particularly from a young short stop much more well known for his leatherwork.

Game Recaps from Thursday, October 9th

Peoria took a commanding lead over Scottsdale early, putting nine runs on the board in the first three innings and going on to win 11-2. SS Francisco Lindor (PEJ) was the star of the show, going 4-6 with a home run, double, three RBI's, two runs scored, and also kicked in a stolen base. The Javelinas tallied seven doubles as a team with LF Kes Carter (PEJ) and DH Jacob Wilson (PEJ) each driving in two. 1B Greg Bird (SCO) continued his early tear, racking up his third double with a single, run scored, and a strike out. LF Brandon Nimmo (SCO) also had a pair of hits and a punch out. 2B Dan Gamache (SCO) went deep for a solo shot with his only hit of the game.

The Javelinas' starting pitcher RHP Aaron Northcraft (PEJ) tossed three scoreless innings, earning the win while allowing a hit and a walk with two strike outs and six ground ball outs. RHP Colton Reavis (PEJ) and RHP Louis Head (PEJ) followed with three more scoreless frames, striking out five in the process with one hit allowed. RHP Ryan O'Sullivan (SCO) took the brunt of the damage, giving up six runs on seven hits and a hit batter in 2.1 innings. RHP Paul Sewald (SCO) was also hit hard, only recording two outs while surrendering four hits, two walks, and three runs, including the homer to Lindor. LHP Steven Okert (SCO) was very impressive in two innings with four strike outs, a hit and a wild pitch. As was RHP Nefi Ogando (SCO) who fanned a pair in an inning.

Out in Glendale, the Surprise Saguaros took advantage of five Desert Dogs miscues in the field, taking home the win 7-4. RF Hunter Renfroe (SUR) got into one, sending a drive to right for a two run homer off LHP Jefferson Olacio (GDD). Renfroe also singled and walked, accounting for all of the extra base hits and 2/3 of the RBI's for Surprise. CF Mallex Smith (SUR) and 2B Jace Peterson (SUR) showed off their base stealing acumen with both players swiping a bag. RF Steven Moya (GDD) collected three hits including a double, stole a bag, made a fielding error and scored a run. CF Daniel Fields (GDD) did his part by hitting a solo homer off RHP Cody Kendall, and stealing a bag.

Surprise had starting pitcher RHP Justin Hancock go two innings where he danced around five baserunners to allow just one run. He struck out one, walked three, allowed two hits, threw a wild pitch and balked. From that point on it was a show of bullpen arms, all throwing one inning a piece. RHP Matt Brazis (SUR) was credited with the win and a blown save, allowing two runs on two hits and two walks. RHP Tayron Guerrero (SUR) recorded a K for each out of his inning while also issuing a walk, a wild pitch and allowing a hit. LHP Ryan Dennick (SUR) finished off the game by striking out two in a perfect ninth inning for the save. RHP Matt Magill (GDD) was handed the loss by allowing a pair of unearned runs in 2.2 innings. He struck out four and allowed two hits and a walk. Starting pitcher RHP Francellis Montas lasted 3.1 frames while allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk, striking out three with a wild pitch as well.

The Salt River Rafters put a crooked number in the books, crossing the dish six times in the fourth inning in the process of taking down the Mesa Solar Sox 7-3. 1B Ryan Casteel (SRR) led the charge with a pair of doubles and two runs batted in. 3B Brandon Drury (SRR) also did his part by launching a solo homer to kick off the fourth inning outburst and singling later in the game. C Chad Wallach (SRR) also doubled and singled, coming around to score both times. LF Eddie Rosario (SRR), CF Evan Marzilli (SRR), and SS Justin Bohn (SRR) each stole a base with Marzilli also gunning down a runner at third and laying down a sac bunt. RF Max Kepler (SRR) also nailed a runner at third base. On the other side of the diamond, CF Dalton Pompey (MSS) singled twice in the leadoff slot, also stealing two bags. LF Chad Hinshaw (MSS) knocked a double, scored a run and drove in one while RF Jacob Hanneman (MSS) reached base twice via a walk and a double. 2B Jon Berti (MSS) swiped a bag, walked twice, singled and made a fielding error. SS Addison Russell (MSS) also stole a bag after getting plunked by RHP Jimmie Sherfy (SRR).

Mesa starter LHP Sean Nolin (MSS) did his job, throwing two scoreless innings with a walk and a hit batsmen to go with two punch outs. He did not factor in the decision as the next pitcher for the Solar Sox, RHP Roberto Osuna (MSS) had a melt down, allowing six runs on six hits and a walk in just 1.1 innings. He allowed the homer to Drury, uncorked a wild pitch, blew the save and was tagged with the loss. RHP Taylor Rogers (SRR) got the ball for the Rafters, allowing a run on three hits and two walks in 2.2 frames, striking out three. RHP Nelson Gonzalez (SRR) was credited with the win after hurling 1.1 scoreless innings with a walk and a punch out.
