Hello everyone and welcome the first This Week in Transactions of the New Year where we will note every transaction announced for the week beginning December 30th and wrapping up January 5th. It seems the starting pitcher market is still waiting for the Masahiro Tanaka saga to play out before kicking up again. According to MLB Trade Rumors' top 50 free agents, only 14 players remain un-signed with 11 pitchers remaining. There are nine starting pitchers, two closers (in order - M. Tanaka, E. Santana, M. Garza, A. Burnett, U. Jimenez, B. Arroyo, G. Balfour, F. Rodney, S. Yoon, P. Maholm, and J. Hammel), and three position players (in order - S. Drew, N. Cruz, K. Morales).
