The 2013 MLB draft is unfamiliar territory for the Washington Nationals. After having a pick in the top 16 of the draft each season from 2005-12 (including six in the top ten), the Nats will have to wait around until the last pick of the second round in 2013, 68th overall.
The lack of a high pick and the limited overall budget (bonus pool of $2,737,200) will make having a top-rated draft next to impossible, but if the board lines up nicely, I'd like to add some high school talent to a team that has only drafted a combined total of 13 high schoolers in the top 15 rounds over the past five years.
Some local prospect possibilities include:
- RHP Bobby Wahl of Ole Miss (from northern VA), but it is unlikely that he drops to #68 overall.
- IF Chad Pinder of Virginia Tech
- HS IF Errol Robinson of St. John's College HS (committed to Ole Miss)
