Minor League Prospect Note: Tyler Skaggs, LHP, Arizona Diamondbacks

According to current rumors, the Arizona Diamondbacks are likely to promote southpaw pitching prospect Tyler Skaggs to the major league roster in time for him to make his major league debut on Wednesday.

Skaggs certainly has little left to prove in the minors.

He started the season with 2.84 ERA and a 71/21 K/BB in 70 innings for Double-A Mobile in the Southern League, then posted a 2.91 ERA and a 45/16 K/BB in 53 innings for Triple-A Reno in the pinball machine of the Pacific Coast League. Overall, he is 9-6, 2.87 in 22 starts, with a 116/37 k/BB ratio in 122 innings, with 112 hits allowed.

Skaggs is a 6-3, 195 pound lefty, born July 13th, 1991. He was drafted in the supplemental first round by the Los Angeles Angels in 2009, from high school in Santa Monica, California, then was traded to Arizona in the Dan Haren deal. He features a low-90s fastball, an excellent curve, and a solid changeup, projecting as a number three starter, perhaps more at his peak.
