Minor League Prospect Note: Aderlin Rodriguez

New, 17 comments

**New York Mets third base prospect Aderlin Rodriguez seems to be figuring some things out in the Low-A South Atlantic League. He had a slow start in April for Savannah, hitting just .200/.266/.370 in 100 at-bats. Something clicked in May however: he hit .315/.406/.562, then .286/.323/.484 in June, and he's off to a hot start in July with a 7-for-15 (.467) run with two homers.

Overall, his line stands at .275/.339/.492 with 20 doubles, 14 homers, 28 walks, and 66 strikeouts in 295 at-bats. He still has some plate discipline issues, but he's almost doubled his walk rate this year (he drew just 29 free passes all of 2011). He has also shown steadier defense at third base, with improved range and a lower (although still high) error rate. At age 20, it seems quite possible that the improvements are real and not just the result of repeating the league. It will be interesting to see how quickly the Mets are willing to move him up to High-A.
