Minor League Prospect Note: Francisco Peguero, OF, San Francisco Giants

San Francisco Giants outfield prospect Francisco Peguero was placed on the disabled list at Triple-A Fresno with a strained muscle in his side. He's expected to miss at least two weeks of play and may not return until early August. Peguero was having a rather disappointing season in his Triple-A debut, hitting .266/.293/.398 with 12 walks and 65 strikeouts in 342 at-bats. He's only stolen one base.

Considered to have the best set of pure physical tools in the farm system, Peguero turned 24 in June but is raw for his age. PCL sources indicate that he has handled fastballs well, but struggles against breaking pitches and changeups, which he sees plenty of in Triple-A. His plate discipline is poor, and he's been unable to replicate his performance of the last couple of years: he hit .329/.358/.488 with 40 steals in A-ball in '10, and .309/.318/.446 last year in Double-A. On the positive side, he draws good reviews for his defense, featuring right field arm strength and center field range.
