I am now working on the Detroit Tigers prospect list. The next team in line is the Pittsburgh Pirates, to be followed by the Baltimore Orioles, Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays, and Miami Marlins.
Use this thread to discuss the Pittsburgh Pirates system. There seems little doubt that the farm system is in better condition than it was several years ago, but progress hasn't been as rapid as hoped. The foundation of a strong pitching staff is here (Cole, Taillon), and several Latin American prospects look very good (Hanson, Polanco, Heredia), but just taking an initial glance at the system, it looks to me like the talent level drops off pretty quickly after the top five or six spots. Some points for discussion:
**Do you agree that the system needs more depth, or has that already been developed?
**There has been a lot of talk about the Navy SEALS training stuff backfiring. Do you think that is a genuine concern or just an overblown media-generated controversy?
**If you think that major changes in the system are needed, what exactly would you change?
**Any sleepers you like beyond the top group?
**True or False: the Pirates will win a division title in the next two years.
Have at it.
