East Cobb Today

New, 10 comments

I'm headed out to East Cobb today to get away from the computer and see some baseball. I'm definitely not up to hitting the early games at 9, but I'll probably be getting the 11:30 and 2:00 games there, the 2:00 game included the prestigious East Cobb Braves 17u team that regularly has the top Georgia talent and always has some truly elite players.

The event is Perfect Game's new East Cobb Invitational, and it's all wood bats, so I'm looking forward to it.

Just giving the rosters a glance, I'm wondering if they'll be changed last minute, because there are a lot of teams carrying 2010 players, which isn't unusual, except for the fact that there are a number of draft picks. For example, the 17u Braves are carrying Kaleb Cowart, Jake Skole, and Ralston Cash. I know Skole is signing on the dotted line pretty much right now, so I doubt he'll play. Cowart and Cash, as early picks, likely wouldn't risk it either. We'll see, though.

The top 2011 player that will be there is Dwight Smith, an outfielder from McIntosh HS near here, and he's the son of the former Major League outfielder. There are dozens of other players I want to see, and I don't know pitching schedules, so I could be missing Adam Griffin (Forsyth Country Day HS, NC) by not getting up for the 9:00 game, but his team (Dirtbags 17's) aren't playing a difficult pool matchup, so I'm crossing my fingers that I'll see him this weekend.

So, use this thread to discuss whatever draft stuff you like, and I'll be tweeting throughout the day here.
