Adam Wainwright

Crystal Ball: 29 starts, 179 innings, 194 hits, 97 runs, 88 earned, 16 homers, 55 walks, 139 strikeouts, 12-10, 4.42

Reality: 32 starts, 202 innings, 212 hits, 93 runs, 83 earned, 13 homers, 70 walks, 136 strikeouts, 14-12, 3.70.

Comparison: Interesting comparison. Rates weren't too far off on a per-inning basis and the comp is closer than the difference in the raw ERAs would indicate.

Cole Hamels.

Crystal Ball: 27 starts, 163 innings, 147 hits, 82 runs, 68 earned, 25 homers, 60 walks, 164 strikeouts, 11-11, 3.74

Reality: 28 starts, 183 innings, 163 hits, 72 runs, 69 earned, 25 homers, 43 walks, 177 strikeouts, 15-5, 3.39

Comparison: He was a bit better than expected on the rates and won more games due to run support, but it's not a bad comparison in my opinion.

Phil Hughes

Crystal Ball: 11 games, 9 starts, 57 innings, 56 hits, 29 runs, 27 earned, 6 homers, 21 walks, 49 strikeouts, 4-3, 4.24

Reality: 13 starts, 73 innings, 64 hits, 39 runs, 36 earned, 8 homers, 29 walks, 58 strikeouts, 5-3, 4.46

Comparison: I think that's pretty close, missed the pitching time by 16 innings but the rates are about right.

Scott Olsen

Crystal Ball: 30 starts, 187 innings, 173 hits, 96 runs, 83 earned, 24 homers, 69 walks, 173 strikeouts, 13-11, 3.99

Reality: 33 starts, 177 innings, 226 hits, 134 runs, 114 earned, 29 homers, 85 walks, 133 strikeouts, 10-15, 5.81.

Comparison: I thought he would build on his rookie year but instead he was terrible, with slipping control in particular. The CB does show an injury in 2008 and then missing all of 2009. Wonder if that will happen.

Gabe Gross

Crystal Ball: 83 games, 214 at-bats, 37 runs, 53 hits, 12 doubles, 1 triple, 8 homers, 33 RBI, 34 walks, 59 strikeouts, 2 steals, 1 caught, .248.

Reality: 93 games, 183 at-bats, 28 runs, 43 hits, 12 doubles, 2 triples, 7 homers, 24 RBI, 25 walks, 37 strikeouts, 3 steals, 1 caught, .235.

Comparison: I think that's a pretty damn close projection for a part-time player.
