Josh Willingham

Rated #5 by Baseball America in the Marlins farm system, Josh Willingham is fast becoming a favorite of the "Moneyballers". The guys takes a walk like its going out of style. He led the minors last year with a .449 OBP. He had 91 walks to 87 strikeouts.

He has 2 things going against him right now. 1) He has no real position. 3B is blocked by Lowell and Cabrera, 1B has some guy named Carlos Delgado, catcher is now blocked with Paul Lo Duca and the Marlins OF is crowded with Cabrera, Pierre as well as Encarnacion and Conine. In Spring Training he will probably play mostly in the OF and behind the plate. I would like him to be Paul Lo Duca's backup but 'Willy' may not be seasoned enough behind the plate for the Marlins liking. Im still a bit dumbfounded on why the Marlins gave Lo Duca a 3 year deal but thats a different story for a different time.

One has to believe that if Willingham does not make the squad out of ST, and if he continues to tear up the minors, he would be trade bait extraordinare this summer. His bat is certainly ready and teams could be chomping at the bit to get this hitting/walking machine
