Phil Hughes
Came back with a pretty nice outing in AFL. 5 innings, 1 hit, no walks, 8ks. The New York Post was burying him after hanson smoked him in that stars game. Quoted all kinds of negativosity from scouts out there. perhaps buried prematurely.
Not to get carried away but encouraging for him. He was coming back from an injury (again), and i don't think his Trenton season could be a complete mirage. Plus, he pitched ok in 2007 and even pitched well against Indians in the playoffs that year.

This kid moyer
He'll never make it. Major leaguers will kill him.
Funny thing is, there are guys like Moyer that make it all the time. Go look at 1950 era stars, and look how bad some of their k/9 or walk rates were. They make Tom Glavine look dominant.
Jamie is a big wine buff, btw. A friend of mine sells him fancy bordeaux.
Just checked Early Wynn, 4.8 ks and 4.2 walks in 1952, but he won 21 with a 2.9 e.r.a. Fairly typical of his Hall of fame career.

Mike Napoli
Wow, only 100 PAs, but look at his post all star stats. .481 oba .776 slugging. 900 plus slugging in September. he'll never maintain that batting average, but I'd relegate mathis to back up duty and the occasional sanatana start next year.
Ethier had a monster second half too, especially once manny came over. .409/.583.
Although I regret relying on hermida's second half last year. Boy did he regress. he ahad a slight injury outta spring training, but really slumped, especially after the break. Maybe no Cabrera really hurt him. But seems like he just wasn't ready. Still young, though.

NL Cy Young race
Lincecum may have had the best year, and he gets a chance to add to his case today. Webb has a lot of wins, e.r.a. a little high, although peripherals look fine. Sabathia had an awesome half season. Santana had a great last 2 months, although only 16 wins hurts, except that is due toa lousy bullpen. Pitching a shutout on 3 days rest in a pennant race crucial game helps.
I'd probably give it to lincecum, but I bet Webb will get it. Close though, in my mind, between lincecum and santana.

halman, hicks, flowers, revere, borbon, triunfel?
Which of these guys would you prefer to have on your fantasy team, or any other "sleepers" out there (well, not sleepers, but folks unlikey already to be picked up). I guess i assume Flowers is blocked for now and triunfel will be a 3b. Let's see, i like Jefry marte as well, and he's available.
Guys in my league read this site so may not even end up helping me, but i am curious. :)

SALLY Top 20
Hmm, Noonan and Romine ahead of Freddie Freeman. Should spark some interesting discussion. Tougher positions to fill. Gindla and kalish towards bottom. Dominguez nice rank.
Taylor a little low for someone they named a minors all-star, but perhaps that is more pure stat driven, he is older, and and also he did well in Fla State league.
Mad Bum number 1. Chacin did better in high A, relatively.

Time for another Jayson Werth Retro?
Jayson is up to .271/.378/.519, including 374 oba and 427 slugging against righties. 17-1 stealing. Seems like a decent fielder although I don't get to see him much.
His development seemed to be slowed by starting as a catcher in low minors and then the wrist injury with Dodgers. Still only 28 years old. He ws afirst round draft pick out of high school, and frankly I felt he was over-rated, as I think this year tops even his best minor league numbers.
Hope to see what he can get out of a full season next year without a platoon.

Enjoy Lincecum while you can...
132 pitches August 27th, 127 on September 8, 138 last night.
Maybe he'll be fine, but they aren't in a pennant race or anything, why push it?
He did pitch a shutout last night. I didn't see it, so maybe they weren't high effort pitches. I'd like to go back and see how many pitches someone like Oswalt was allowed to throw as a young pitcher. Just off the top of my head, also a smallish righty.

Kris Medlen last night
I hadn't heard of him, although seems to have gotten some comment here. 9-5-0-0-0-12 in Southern League playoffs. The 12ks/0 walks caught my eye and he did have a nice ratio. Converted from reliever. Smallish, but that doesn't bother me much. 5'10" 175 lbs. Maybe he can pull a Jurrjens next year. With Hanson gives them some nice rotation potential.
As an aside, would you rather have Hanson, Chacin, Alderson, Brett Anderson or Cecil?
