Variable Ticket Prices

The Giants are going to set their ticket prices based on demand.

I saw this over at Bleedcubbieblue but I think it is interesting none the less.  The idea is when a game has high demand (rivalry, holiday, opening day, milestones, playoff chase, or Homer Bailey's debut comes to mind) the software will increase prices to match demand.  It is supposivly also supposed to move in the other direction so for a cold and rainy midweek game in April ticket prices would drop.

I am not sure how I feel about this.  It leaves a lot of uncertantity.  If you decide to walk up on a nice day you might find that tickets are much more expensive than you expected, but at the same time if walk up on a night with questionable weather you should have lower prices.  But that also means that the guy who is sitting next to you who bought his tickets two months ago may have paid significantly more.

Slyde was in the newspaper this morning

And no it isn't because he is a sexual deviant.

http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20081102/SPT04/811020447/1071

It was written by Eradi but Slyde "contributed"  I guess he sent some emails from his basement.  It was nice to finally see some intelligent writing in the Enquirer.  Erardi should be promoted to Fays position.  It would be fun to listen to him and Marty in the booth in the second inning.  But thanks you Slyde, you have shown countless fans like myself the light of sabrametrics.

EARLY VOTING

Well early voting has begun in Ohio.  Lets have a fun non-baseball releated activity and hold elections of our own at RR.  I think we really outta get 1 electoral vote.  I consult the Constitution and get us a vote.  If the candidate wins RR, and loses the general elections we can give them Boobs and Slydes jobs respecitivly.  Remember voting is a basic American right.  Please be sure to use your fake vote.  Consider this a dry run.

*Note since I and the Reds are in Ohio, I choose the candidates on the Ohio ballot.

One other public service reminder.  Today is the last day you can register to vote in the State of Ohio.  If you haven't done that yet and you are 18 and haven't commited a felony go out and do it.  Even if you don't like Obama or McCain, you don't have to vote for them, vote for the Constitution Party if it floats your boat.  If everybody voted for a 3rd party candidate when they didn't like either main stream candidate, it would send a message to the two parties in charge and could even un-seat them.

Did Dusty really say this?

via reds.com

"Their averages are low, but their on-base percentages are still high," Baker said. "Their on-base percentages are higher than some of the guys who are hitting. I know they can hit, but it also helps to get on base and put a pitcher in the stretch. That's the thing. Most starters don't like being in the stretch."

That is odd since guys who draw walks are nothing but base cloggers.  And furthormore he said...

"I still wish their averages were higher," Baker said. "You want everything, but if you look around baseball, there's not a whole lot of everything. You're seeing a lot of low averages with some high production and a lot of strikeouts."

This is a radical departure from many of his previous comments about OB%.  I mean I wish he would move Griffey down in the lineup, but atleast he understands a hitter with a low average can still be productive.

Burton has a sore shoulder

via McCoy

He hurt his shoulder last week after standing on the field during an argument, he threw a pitch less than warmed up and felt something.  Hopefully it isn't that big of an issue, and a week off will be enough time for him to recover.

McCoy is really kind of a pompos ass.  He writes like he is obviously so much better than his readers.  I liked him better before his blog.

FBI and MLB Investigating Jim Bowden and Jose Rijo.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3483972

Apparently there is suscipsion that Bowden was Rjio were taking kickbacks from the Latin Players they signed.  I would love to see Bowden in an orange leter jumpsuit, but I like Jose Rijo, and I would be really disapointed if he were to be involved in this scandal.  Bowden denys any wrong doing (anyone surprised)?  The investigation is in its early stages.  I wouldn't be surprised if Bowden is guilty of this, it seems so him.

OOTP IX?

I would be curious for a review of OOTP 9.  I have OOTP 8 and I love it.  I love to use the in game manage feature, and I manage just about every game I play.  I felt it was a huge upgrade from OOTP 2006, which was a disapointment, atleast I thought it was.  If anyone gets OOTP 9 please tell us about it.  I probably won't buy it until the Winter when the price drops, but I would like to know if the upgrades are significant enough to make it worth owning.

Attendance

Fay made a post in his blog about attendance...  Several people responded that they aren't going to games because the Reds have been bad for a while.  Do you stay away simply because the Reds are losing?  I have already attended one game (at PNC) and I have tickets for 5 more games (but one is in Cleveland and one in Chicago), and I plan to go back to PNC in August, and I hope to go to a few other random games.  I go down about 5-10 times a year regardless of how well they are playing.  I would go more if I could but I have a minimum wage second shift job, so I don't have the time or the money to go.  Even if the Reds lose I still get to spend an afernoon or evening at the ballpark, and there isn't much that is better than that.

Dusty the Communicator?

Why does Dust bag continue to talk to the media before he talks to his players.  Such as today when he said that Cueto's problem was probably New York jitters possibly because he was pitching in front of family, because we know that all Latino people have family in New York.  If I were Cueto I would be pissed that my manager is speculating on why I am struggling.  I highly doubt it was jitters, I am guessing if that effects him he would have really struggled in his debut.

I can sorta buy the argument that a manager does more than pushes buttons during the game, but Dusty when he isn't botching double switches and writing confusing lineup cards doesn't seem to communicate at all well with his players.  Bronson Arroyo didn't find out Dusty thought he had a phsyical problem until the media relied what Dusty told them to Bronson.  Freel has openly complained about not knowing when he is going to start.  Narron and Miley were rough, and weren't considered to be great communicators, and in Narron's case a horrible in game manager too, but I feel like there weren't any problems like this.  After all it was Bench Coach Naron who caught Dusty's mistake when he failed to notify the umpires of a double switch in 2004.  The best part of that one was Dusty went out and screamed, yelled, kicked the lineup card, because he failed to do his job.

I feel like Dusty is almost too open to the media.  I would much rather have bland comments like, well Cueto really worked hard out there and has a lot of talent and is a great competitor than I think he was nervous about pitching in New York.  Yeah it was kind of annoying when Naron told the media that "somebody" will pitch on Saturday.  But atleast that didn't piss off his players or sound like a fool.

I guess Dusty is still better than the "Great Communicator".  He hasn't armed Iraq and Iran yet.
