My Orioles Shadow Draft

I Wasn't On To Post It Before, So While Now It's Plain Hindsight, Please Still Give It A Read

1st: (4): Brian Matusz, LHP, San Diego (Matusz)

2nd (50): Tyler Ladendorf, SS, Howard CC (Avery)

Fills the massive void up the middle and also provides us with a legitimate speed prospect. Was hoping for Logan Forsythe to fall.

3rd (81): Scott Gorgen, RHP, UC Irvine (Hoes)

Most Underrated Pitcher In The Draft IMO. Statistically Successful With The Best Changeup In College Baseball. I like the Hoes selection a lot barring we sign him. It'll be hard.

4th (116): Austin DiCharry, RHP, Texas HS (Hudson)

Love His Curveball, But After Safe, Signable Picks In Ladendorf and Gorgen, We Would Have The Money To Possibly Go Over Slot for DiCharry.

5th (148): Peter Andrelczyk, RHP, Coastal Carolina (Miclat)

Flame-Throwing Senior Closer Should Rise Fast Through The Minors.

6th (176): Nate Recknagel, 1B, Michigan (Zagone)

Another College Senior Has Great Power Stroke

MOD- Oakland Athletics

Hello A's Fans!

I am scouting director for the A's in the Annual MLB Mock Draft to take place 1pm EST on May 31st. I am also working with adschofield, a member of this site and also a buddy of mine from www.nfldraftcountdown.com. EazyB81 will also be chiming in I assume. Both eazyB and scho did the KC Draft last year

Some Thoughts I Have:

-We need to boost LHP depth in the organisation. Two of three LHP in last years draft, (Schlereth and Berger) were unsigned and even though trades brought in Brett Anderson and Gio Gonzalez, it still leaves a void of solid LHP on the lower levels.

-College First Standpoint. There have been rumours of a "Shift In Philosophy", in which the A's put more money into Latin signings and the Amateur Draft. This could open doors for High Schoolers at 14 or 39, but I love college baseball and usually follow a college first policy in my previous mocks.

-Supplemental Pick. The A's have pick 39 as compensation for Shannon Stewart. Some of my favorite prospects are expected to go there.

So What Do You All Think?

Canadian League Baseball Fantasy Game

The Situation:

In a rage of patriotic stupidity, Bud Selig contracts the Toronto Blue Jays and moves the team to the states. As planned, The Ottawa Lynx move to Allentown, and unplanned, but necessary for this game, the Vancouver Canadians move south as well. Outraged, a grassroots movement known as Friends of Baseball In Canada, along with many conglomerate Canadian companies have started a 10 team league known as the Canadian League Baseball. It is an independant league. There is 5 teams in the East (Halifax, Toronto, Ottawa, Winnipeg, and Montreal)and 5 teams in the West (Calgary, Vancouver, Edmonton, Saskatoon, and Regina).

The Game:

There will be a 25-man draft to fill your roster. However, there is a bank of players, the 2006 Minor League Free Agent List (http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/minors/news/262709.html)

The real challenge is filtering the talent on the list. At the end of the draft, there will be votes to determine the winner.

My team is the Edmonton Eh's.

Anyone Interested?

Trade Deadline Game

In a contest on NFLDC, contestants choose a team and decide to buy or sell. I have the A's and Cardinals. Being an Orioles fan, my ideas for what to do with these teams are amateurish and kind of stupid. I decided to sell with Oakland, for I feel theyre too far behind Los Angeles and Seattle to really contend this season. Also, I feel as if a lot of their minor league talent has decimated. I have put the following players on the trading block: Marcos Scutaro, Dan Johnson, Mike Piazza, Jason Kendall, and Joe Kennedy. As for St. Louis, I will buy. I am looking for some veteran relief as well as prospects.

Any ideas or criticism?

Thanks

Vasili Spanos

Why doesn't he appear on any prospect lists? He consistently does good at the plate, playing everyday for Midland, and in the past for the A's. But yet he remains off the radar. I don't see him as a future star on the corners (lacks power) but he could be great as a reserve.

Currently hes hitting .282 with 5 hrs, and 26 rbi through 170 ab.

Last year he hit .308 with 9 hr and 67 rbi through 439 ab in Midland.

so Why?
