noone else on this list has flashed the kind of dominance that masterson had in a horrendous A+ pitching environment (lancaster) nor in AA:

june: 35.7 IP, 18 K, 2 BB, 62% GB, 2.89 ERA
july: 40 IP, 40 K, 8 BB, 72% GB, 1.13 ERA

ORGANIZATIONAL DEPTH REPORTS (gio, fautino, and el nino)

variables don't; constants aren't

Other - Cole Rohrbrough
  1. 96 Ks to 20 BBs in 61 IP splitting 50/50 between SS and low-A.
  2. No significant drop off in ridiculously good performance when moving up a level.
  3. Would have projected as a high pick had he not been signed as a draft & follow.
  4. At 6'3", 220, and barely 20 years old, is still projectable.
  5. Even if he doesn't project, his stuff (low-90's fastball, plus curve that flashes plus plus, developing change that flashes plus) plays well for a lefty.
  6. Velocity has consistently improved over the past year, and I wouldn't be surprised if the improvement continues.
  7. Absolute bulldog who's been a winner at every level.
Vogt early, Vogt often.

Noonan vs Fairley
This is a classic ceiling vs development dilemma in ranking.

Wendell Fairley almost surely has a much higher ceiling as a hitter than Nick Noonan, but Noonan is much more likely to reach his ceiling.

Being the homer I am, it came down to Noonan vs Fairley for me.  I voted Fairely on upside.  Love his swing.

What makes him better than Detwiler? Or a whole bunch of other names not on the list?

Rowell
Well, you're right that there are a lot of guys that you could make a good argument for getting on here.

I've been voting Rowell for the last few polls, when I'm not submitting an 'anti' vote.  I'm surprised that people seem so down on him.  He was #45 on BA's list last year, #49 on our pre-2007 list and #43 on our mid-year list.  He didnt have a great year stats-wise but held his own (.761 OPS) in a full-season league at 18 y/o, 2 yrs young for the league.  Plays a premium position (3B).  People question his ability to stay there; he did make 21 errors in 82 games.

But he's one case where seeing him in person significantly affected my opinion of him.  He looked GREAT at 3B the game I saw.  Smooth, all his throws were rt on the money and made a sparkling play charging and barehanding a ball.  It was just 1 game, but I dont see how anyone could look so good in even one game if he wasnt at least a reasonably good bet to stick at his position.  Looked good at the plate, too.

OTOH, his rumored potential replacement at 3B, Brandon Snyder, looked terrible.  He played 1B and made at least 2-3 bad defensive plays, including dropping a popup I could have caught.  Looked like a born DH.  Didnt do anything w the bat either.

Rowell also was injured for part of the year, which could have been partly responsible for his less than spectacular stats.  Basically, I dont see where he did anything to merit much of a downgrade at all.  Belongs rt about in this range.
