Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Manship

Does anyone know what happened with Jeff Manship in yesterday's game? I saw he only pitched 2.2 innings and read that there was likely some sort of injury. I think he's one of the better pitchers to come out of last year's draft, but given his arm trouble history, this would seem to be a red flag.

Any news?

Manship suffered a groin pull.

Not great news, but it could have been worse.

Sounds Like...
He'll be put on the 7-day DL.

question?
this doesn't deserve a whole diary so I'll ask here... Tell me about Manship. Control or stuff guy? i see the k numbers and all the other numbers but is he a #3 or someone who can grow into more?

His curveball...
...is complete filth, absurdly fall-of-the-table devastation, one of the best in professional I have heard, and a low 90s FB which he spots very well. Also, before his surgery, he was the 3rd rated pitcher coming out of high school behind only Ian Kennedy and Andrew Miller, and was the 13th pick in BAs mock draft for 2003 (his HS grad year) and made the BA All-American Team...that tells me that he has a big upside.
I would personally like to thank Dave Littlefield for banishing the ghost of Scott Kazmir from Shea Stadium.

some jeff manship info for you
He was an extremely high recruit to notre dame.  He had a good career there however, he had Tommy John Surgery while there.  He ended up being there friday  night starter over Jeff Samardjza.

Jeff manship has very good control, as you can tell by the numbers.  His velocity on his fast ball is around 91-93mph.   He has a big time + curveball that is his out pitch.  I hear he has a slider also and a change up pitch he's still working on.

Manship was given 2nd or 3rd round money last year to sign, even though he was what a 13th or 14th round pick.  Most people thought he was going back to Notre Dame.

After Slowey, Garza, Perkins....i would rank him as the twins best pitching prospect.  His ceiling I think is a #2 but with johan/liriano/garza/slowey around with guys like baker bonser.....I'll settle for a #4 type guy.

Q&A with Jeff Manship
Check out www.SethSpeaks.net. Manship was nice enough to do a Q&A for me, and he really did a nice job. Check it out to learn more about him.
