Mourning

One of the victims in the Virginia Tech shooting rampage yesterday was Brian Bluhm, better known to MinorLeagueBall readers as VTTigers, one of our best contributors and posters. Here is a link to Brian's most recent posts: VTTigers.

We'd like to express our deepest condolences to Brian's family and friends, and to the family and friends of all those impacted by this horrific event. Peace.

Can anyone
Forward these links to Brian's family at some point?    Sometime in the coming days and weeks they might find a little light in knowing he made his presence felt and will be missed by this community.

Deepest condolences to his friends and family, and to all those touched by this tragedy.

Terrible...
Reading some of his old posts really made my stomach turn. How anybody can take another's life... I'll never be able to understand. My condolences to the families and friends who lost someone yesterday...

RIP Brian and the thirty one others who tragically lost their lives.

wow
Thanks John and Jeri for the support, its times like these that really show what type of little community we have here. Being a college student myself its scary to believe someone I sit next to in class could turn around and commit such a malicious act of violence. We all share the same passion that Brian did before his life was taken. Reading his posts puts a pit in my stomach things this could happen to any of us. He was an innocent person as were all 31 people. He will missed and may he rest in peace and live eternally in heaven.

Rest in Peace
As a fellow VT alumni, my heart rests with the victims.  I know Norris Hall well and coming to grips with the horror that went on in there.... it's just unimaginable.

Terrible, terrible news
My thoughts and prayers go out to VTTigers, his friends, familiy and the friends/families of the other 31 people who tragically lost their lives yesterday due to - well, due to what?  Why did that coward do what he did? - we might never know...

I too am a Hokie grad and i spent a lot of my junior and senior years in Norris Hall.  I read this morning that one of my old CE professors, G.V. Loganathan, is one of the deceased.  I can't believe this happened...

Professors
I was in the aerospace department and I feel horrible because I feel I probably knew the other professor killed, the Israeli holocaust survivor in the ESM department that was famous for aeronautical work, but I can't remember.

Prayers
I live in Canada and the first thing that came to mind when I heard about this horrible tragedy was my ex-girlfriend who lives fairly close to the campus. Word's don't describe how hard this hits home when someone you know is close to the situation.

My prayers go out to his family. Keep your head up!

Unreal
Just the thought that 30+ hours earlier he was posting on this website and then was senselessly murdered is beyond comprehension.  Sadly, I feel this is only the beginning of stories like these.

Last post...
It's not often that you can look at a post that someone has made on a blog or discussion board, and know that it is the last post they will ever make.

And maybe that is an important lesson for people who frequent such forums. Any post that you make could very well be the last one you make....

by calig23 on Apr 17, 2007 9:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

yeah
This reminds me of another message board I post at that had a member that was killed in the 9/11 attacks. They tracked down his last post and it was something like 2 minutes before the plane hit. Positively eery.

Awful, awful, awful
There are no words that can fill the hollowness in your heart in a time like this, when senseless violence has snuffed out innocent lives. But sometimes words are all we have to share. It pains me to think about what Brian and all of the other students and teachers had taken from them. Decades of love, and joy, and sorrow, and friends, and children and grandchildren. It hurts to think about their loved ones who have had someone special ripped from them, and the decades they'll have ahead of them, filled with memories they'll be unable to share. It's hard to imagine any good could come from this, but hopefully this tragedy will lead to better communication systems on campuses, tougher gun laws, or something... something that will make this less likely to happen in the future. My sincerest condolences to all of those affected.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.

Our community
We might not always get along or agree with each other but we are all bonded by this great little web site. The post that got me the most was the one where he said he was moving into a new apt in June and a contingency was that the place was directTV ready for the baseball package(before cable got access) Baseball has lost a truly passionate and knowledgeable fan.

Community
Nothing to say except the cliches - we'll all miss VTTiger, and all have a little more understanding of how fragile life is and how we need to treasure every day.

It's quite a community we have here- thanks, John,  for giving us the forum!

Condolences
All I know is that I am thankful that our common interest, a love for baseball, has brought us all together and I that I had the pleasure of knowing VTTigers.  The same can be said for a lot of the other posters on this site - I do appreciate the relationship we all have (distant and faceless as it maybe).  The internet is a pretty amazing thing - where else could I find a group of people that love baseball as much as this community.  Anyways, I'm keeping Brian and his family in my prayers.

RIP VtTigers
I've been reading all of this here and on the other sites that Brian frequented and I dont know what exactly to say:

Brian, it was a joy reading your posts and participating in discussion on here with you. I appreciate all the times we were on the same side regarding Tigers prospects, as well as any times we may have disagreed. I also thank you for your best wishes for my friend previously. I can only send my best wishes to your family and friends who have to now deal with the terrible loss. It is sad to know that I wont get to read any more of your insights or get good info on Tigers prospects from you.

Take care and may you rest in peace

RIP - Brian and the 31 other victims!
Hello everyone,

My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, acquaintances, and all those affected by the tragic events that occurred on Monday at Virginia Tech.

It's truly unbelieveable that VTTigers was here just the other day posting, and now, he's gone.  Like gashousegang, I remember that post about where he was considering moving into a new apartment if they had DirecTV - I agree that baseball has lost a knowledgeable and passionate fan.

The world has also lost 31 other individuals and their current and future contributions, including a professor who was making some progress on curing cerebal palsy.  He also left behind a wife and three children.  It's really a shame that we've lost these 32 individuals, especially in the manner in which they died.

RIP Brian Bluhm (VTTigers) and the 31 other victims of the Virginia Tech shooting on Monday, April 16, 2007.  You will all be missed.

The "cream of the crop" doesn't always rise to the top.

Brian
He was about as knowledgeable as they come.  A very smart individual and also very polite and courteous, even if he didn't agree with you.  I feel for his family and friends and all those who tragically lost their lives on that terrible day yesterday.  This guy along with the other young victims had bright, bright futures ahead of them and I just can't put into words how upset it makes me feel when I think about how quick that all came to an end.

I never met the guy in real life and really only had a handful of direct correspondences with him over the past couple of years, but as a fellow passionate Tiger fan and baseball fan in general, I am happy to have become acquainted with him over the internet.

I feel rage and sorrow
that something like this could happen. It sickens me that people do something as horrific as this. All of these shootings. Sickening. Rest in peace, you are all gone far too early.

Wow
Just Sunday night, Brian was trying to convince me to get in here and help him in a Maybin argument...  sad stuff.

I'm hearing the Tigers are holding a moment of silence for him.

I hope that the Tigers do that
It would be a nice gesture.  Brian appears to have been a very special person.

Moment of silence
I also heard the Tigers had a moment of silence for all the victims and mentioned Brian's name today. Very nice gesture on their part. Granderson also had some nice things to say, what a class act (I had heard this multiple times before, this helps reassure it.)

"In Detroit, the Tigers personalized their mournful moment with a reference to Brian Bluhm, a lifelong Tigers fan and VT graduate student who was among the victims.

Bluhm had gone through childhood in Troy, Mich., and remained a loyal Tigers fan following his family's move, to the point of making a name for himself on message boards.

Tuesday, that name was spoken as a symbol of the losses felt by everyone, everywhere. "

My condolences
As a Virginia Tech student I am thankful for all of the support that this site has given to VTTigers and the rest of the Virginia Tech family.  No words may describe the way our campus has been affected but I only hope that God will allow us to love again and to regin that trust that is part of such a community as this.  Right now, more than ever, I am proud to be a Hokie for as they tell us when we enter this prestigious university: "What is a Hokie? We are!"  May my condolences go out to all those affected by this tragedy and may society help us recover when from this atrocity.

Brian
Bunny,

Your brother touched many people with his spirit for the game, knowledge and willingness to share opinions, and his love for the Detroit Tigers.

He'll be greatly missed on message boards across America.

He seems like he exemplified how life should be lived.  You're lucky to have known him.

Many thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time---more than you can imagine.

Remember fondly and smile often.

Regards,
