I think he improves on last year and anchors that solid Detroit staff.

I say he struggles some early (mostly hit and HR unlucky), then gets hurt when he starts to find his rhythm.

And as soon as I say that ...
I am guilty of a most glaring typo.

Obviously, I don't think Bondy's K/9 will be 58.54, I meant to type 8.54 !!

Breakout
I don't want to go through the whole thing but I think a great season is coming.

He'll post an ERA around 3.5-3.7 which in the American League is damn good. K around 9 per 9, control will be solid again...around 2.5. Groundballs keep coming, and his HR rate stays solid.

He's a damn fine pitch, and a pretty underrated one.

by SenorGato88 on Feb 11, 2007 1:44 PM EST reply actions

He is all but
underrated from the fantasy drafts I've seen. I do expect some improvement. But unless he can dramatically improve his change, I don't see elite status anytime soon.

by playingwithfire on Feb 11, 2007 7:40 PM EST up reply actions

Hmm
24 years old, two very, very good pitches, and an average pitch. Sounds like the jump to elite could definitely happen. Better control of his slider would probably propel him there.

Not to mention his xFIP is close to a half run lower than his actual ERA.

by travellin3261 on Feb 11, 2007 8:18 PM EST up reply actions

xFIP
also has Byung Hyun Kim at about 4.2ERA I believe. It doesn't account for the bad inning factor. Anyway. By anytime soon I mean this year. I could see some minor improvement like a 3.85 ERA. But not elite status that some of you are suggesting. It's tough to have a 3.10ish ERA in the AL Central.
