Gary Matthews Jr. Community Projection

Results for Gary Matthews Jr:

We had 30 entries. Some of them looked overly optimistic, but the overall projection came out fairly reasonable I think. Here is is:

143 games, 560 at-bats, 155 hits, .276 average, 32 doubles, 4 triples, 17 homers, 72 RBI, 55 walks, 98 strikeouts, 12 steals.

For comparison purposes, here is the Bill James Projection from the Bill James Handbook 2007:
144 games, 550 at-bats, 153 hits, .278, 34 doubles, 3 triples, 16 homers, 85 RBI, 58 walks, 98 strikeouts, 9 steals.

Ron Shandler's Baseball Forecaster has it at .286 with 16 homers and 9 steals.

Oof.
"Ron Shandler's Baseball Forecaster has it at .286 with 16 homers and 9 steals."

All of that for the bottom-basement cost of 10 mil a year!!!

I ate a Grand Slam @ Denny's yesterday... pooped out a 2 run double today.

well
.276/.341/.439 is not a line that's worth 10 mill, but it's close.  If Matthews' defense is really good (I think he's below average), he'll be worth it.

Personally, I think he's going to have a slightly better year this year.  Worth the money for this year maybe, definately not for the whole deal though.
