Twins need to promote Matt Garza

their 1st round pick in 2005.

He's too good for High A ball, fort myers.

4-0 record

0.86 era
31 IP
18 hits given up
40 k's

Send him to New britian ASAP terry ryan, Take Slowey too.

Also Matt Fox twins 1st round sandwich pick who has been injured basically since his 2004 draft is back, I believe he's starting in Beloit soon.  Hopefully he can do something.

good idea, rush prospects
because they have one hot steeak. i'd love to see where that got him.
when your ERA has letters and not numbers, it's a bad thing- kevin goldstein

re
"Twins" and "rushing prospects" are not things that are usually mentioned together.

uhhh
....

He's 21 or 22...it's not rushing him....

Lots of guys that age are in AA ball.  Once a pitcher shows he's too good for a league, why keep him there?????

It's not one hot streak...he dominated Beloit last year, as much as this....when a pitcher controls a league, you promote him, especially if he's out of college...look at past cases ala scott baker, verlander, now you see it with pelfrey and many others...

Thats what happens.

Throwing up 7 or 8 inning games, giving up 2 hits, with 8 k's time after time won't help him long term in High A ball.

Time for AA ball like I said.  If he was a 19 year old kid in High A ball I'd understand where you are coming from, but these kids aren't gonna hit off him, no way... move him up

heck
he was great for the twins in spring training...

probably could do more then radke, lohse or silva right now...has better (stuff) then the 3 of them combined.

Lots of people questioned this pick last year, said we should have taken torra...

I saw Garza in spring ball, this kids got some filthy stuff, electric..all the makings of a good #2 imo.  Great velocity, movement, secondary offerings.

His Ceiling is higher then glen perkins or even scott baker(whom i love)

It's Been Said
That the Twins are waiting until the weather heats up in New Britain before promoting Garza. Frankly, the weather has been crappy for New Britian for a little while now, as some of their recent games have been rained out.

I would expect Garza to be up with NB within the next month, and I don't think it's too far fetched to think Slowey will be right there with him.

Sickels for President.

Weather

I once agreed with weather holding guys back. But now I think it is a farce. If a team doesnt want a guy throwing in cooler weather why are Jones, Harben and Perkins all there now?

Innings Pitched
Baker had pitched almost half again as many innings as Garza in only one more start when he was promoted. I don't know the reason for that, but I think they will want to see Garza going deeper into games before they promote him. Slowey may even move up sooner. He's pitched only two less innings in one less start and has a third the walks Garza has.

Those low ERA's are slightly misleading since they are partially attributable to sloppy fielding. Garza has given up 9 runs, only three earned and Slowey has given up 11 runs, only five earned. I suspect while the runs weren't "earned" the pitchers made their contribution to them scoring.

Well, if you believe in the concept that errors are a terrible way to measure defense (and I do) then I think you also have to accept that RA (Run Average) as opposed to ERA is a better stat as it related to run prevention.

I'll still judge guys on stuff, location, and K/BB ratio, though.  Usually, ERA  or RA is the last thing I look at.
