Trevor Ploufee

I'm a Devil Rays fan, for the most part. However, I do have a few personal faves, prospect-wise, who are from other systems.

One of those personal faves is Trevor Ploufee from Minnesota's system.

Anyways, what level is Trevor currently in and how is he doing hitting-wise?

Thanks in advance.

Plouffe
He also happens to be one of my personal favorites.

He got moved up to the Florida State League this year and is hitting .276/.425/.310 at present, with 14/10 BB/K in 58 AB. He's still probably a good 3 years away from the majors if he makes it at all, but he has a lot to offer.

No power
But lots of patience.

276/425/310 with a 14/10 BB/K ratio. No home runs, 3 doubles, and 11 runs scored. He also has 5 errors.

(After pitcher tells GM he will pitch half of the games, complete them and they will all be QS)The GM has an orgasm and a heart attack at the same time.-Shamus

Plouffe
Even though he hasn't shown it yet, he actually has a little bit of pop in his bat, with 12 homers last year at Beloit.

He has 5 errors, but every scouting report I've read about him suggest he is a very good defensive SS with great range.

Plouffe
despite his 5 errors, he does play very good defense. One thing about young players is you cant judge a player and how good he is defensively by how many errors they have. Sometimes it comes from trying to make the spectacular play instead of holding the ball, which Ive heard Plouffe tries to do.

Is..
Paul Janish a decent comparison for Ploufee?

Power
You aren't going to see much power demonstrated in the form of home runs by anyone at Fort Myers and certainly not by a young player like Plouffe.

Plouffe - Wood
OK, I know I'm completely being random here, but has anyone checked out the numbers of Brandon Wood in the Midwest League in 2004 and compared them to Plouffe's numbers in the Midwest League last year? They are very similar. In a couple of categories, Wood was a little better (batting average), but in most categories (including power numbers), Plouffe was equal.

Now, Wood got to go play in the California League where Plouffe is now in the Florida State League. However, it is just fun to look at the comparison, as a Twins fan, and wish!

no....
Brignac is the best comparison to Wood...Plouffe is not big enough...and I haven't heard scouts say anything about PLouffe's power....Wood and Brignac have the frame and the natural loft...Plouffe is probably superior in D though...

Plouffe, encouraging performance so far.
www.sethspeaks.net lists the following nunbers for Plouffe in his repeat of Low-A:

283/.442/.333 (17-60) 3-2B, 0-HR, 3-RBI

I don't worry about his lack of power through 60 at bats when he's still young-relative-to-league.  I think the patience he's displayed so far in his minor league career is a great indicator at his level of potential, especially since it seems disipline is the skill least likely to be developed in the minors.  He may well be a .xxx/.360+/.450+ type of Shortstop if in 3 years the Twins dont try to "fix" his approach to the plate.

correction.
Plouffe is repeating High-A ball.  I look forward to seeing his double-A transition, but hope they don't rush him.

Correction of the correction
He is at Hi-A Ft. Myers in the Florida State League. however, he is not repeating. He was at Low A Beloit last year.
