Damn
the only thing i can thing of is, how much is peavy making? i forget, has he hit arbitration years yet?

and i guess the padres must believe in cesar carillo. Horacio might be a decent pitcher too in this huge ballpark, but peavy is a stud #1 pitcher. And then they also give up one of the best relievers in baseball, linebrink. id say this is a questionable move by the padres and kevin towers IF true

Peavy's contract
Peavy is signed through his arbitration years. He's inked for '07 & '08, and has a team option for '09.

There is no truth to this rumor. It's like the dozen e-mails a week I get from my friends who are fans of rival teams ... "Hey man, did you here the A's traded Marco Scutaro and minor-leaguers for Barry Bonds??!!" Crap like that.

Common sense...
sometimes you gotta have some and see thru message board rumors...

word just in from sources in the land of rumoria

well, at least it's sourced.  did crasnick really say that or not?  if he did then it's not the internet's fault.

Weird
This would make more sense if the Padres weren't just getting one year of Giles (although I suppose they could negotiate a new contract as soon as they do the trade).

3 Years of Peavy + Linebrink for 1 Year of Giles, an oft injured starter (you are referring to Horacio and not Max, right?) and a top prospect?

The only way I think this makes sense if Peavy's shoulder is worse than people assume.

Also, interesting Peavy fact I was unaware of - apparently he's legally blind without contact lenses.

Oops
Sorry, I just remembered that Max was traded for Wickman (right?)

re: trade
Yeah, Max Ramirez is gone. Horacio actually looked decent at times last year, so if Peavy's elbow thing is serious and HoRam turns into something, this could turn out to be a good trade for the Padres, even if Salty doesn't become an elite catcher.

With that said, I'm betting Peavy goes on to do very good things for the next three years, HoRam never becomes better than league average (although the park should help him out), and Salty... well, he's an enigma at this point. So I don't see this deal working at well for the Pads, which is why I doubt it'll happen.

However, I do see Giles and Linebrink switching teams soon. The Pads have added arms to their pen and cleared a spot at 2B in the past few weeks, so it seems like they're preparing for such a swap.

If this is true...
then every other GM should have Towers on speed-dial to see how else they can fleece him.

Extremely dumb trade
Yeah, if the Pads make this trade, shame on them.  To give up a legitimate #1/#2 starter who is relatively cheap PLUS a top notch setup man for a 2nd baseman coming off a bad year, an oft injured pitcher who has never shown consistency, and a catching prospect who crashed and burned in AA....  Bad trade.

Debunked!
Exhale Met fans, this rumor has been crushed by MetsBlog. Crasnick was never even on ESPN radio today...
