Q&A with Chris Coste

Although at age 32 Chris Coste is not considered a prospect, he has torn up AAA since entering affiliated ball from the independent Northern League.

Today, he answered a number of questions on my site, www.SethSpeaks.net. I think it is rather fun and interesting. Check it out.

Star-divide

Although at age 32 Chris Coste is not considered a prospect, he has torn up AAA since entering affiliated ball from the independent Northern League. In 2005, he was an International League All-Star as a member of the Scranton-Wilkes Barre team.

I had the good fortune of playing ball with him for a couple of years at Concordia College in Moorhead Minnesota. What a great guy and a wonderful ball player.

Today, he answered a number of questions on my site, www.SethSpeaks.net. I think it is rather fun and interesting. Check it out, and let me know what you think.

Also, are there other 'older' guys who have spent years in the minor leagues, always performing, but never getting the call. I think of Chris Heintz with the Twins who was finally called up in September this year.

Brian Myrow
Myrow was traded to the Dodgers in 2004 from the Yankees.  I think the Dodgers dropped him from their 40-man roster this winter.  He is a lefthanded hitting 1B who can also play the OF and 3B, although not very well.  After dominating the Northern League for two seasons he hit .298/.417/.502 over five seasons in the minors with a nearly 1:1 strikeout to walk ratio.  He could be like a lefthanded Olmedo Saenz if given the chance, but with guys like Jim Tracy and Dusty Baker managing may never get it.

Chris Coste was a former Indians' farmhand!
Hello SethSpeaks, and welcome if you're new. :-)

Yes, I remember Chris Coste with the Buffalo Bisons, the AAA affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, about 4-5 years ago - he hit quite well and thought he might have had a chance with the Indians, but that never came to pass.

He could be useful for someone if someone gave him a chance - 32 isn't that old.  He could be a useful bench guy, backup DH/1B/C, pinch hitter.

Thanks for the interview and the link.

Take care and have a great 2006! :-)

yeah...
and actually, the Royals had big plans for Chris Clapinski last season, who I think was 29 or 30, as a heavily-used utility IF.  An injury put an end to those plans, though, and what we all got was a lot of Gotay, Murphy & bleech.

Mike Coolbaugh
The Royals signed him to be their AAA 3B this off season, he and Clapinski could both be on the Omaha team...
