problem
The problem with predicting Morneau's numbers is the fact that he was so unbelievable sick this weekend.    He should have a huge season if he's 100% healthy, but he's not going to start the season that way.

I figure he'll miss a few early in the year and get shut down for two weeks due to fatigue in or around August.

My Projection for Morneau
My boss would hate it that I have been working on my own projection system all day.

I have Morneau at:
.273/.341/.515

He will miss 13 games.  Some of the games he plays will likely be at DH while LeCroy covers 1B, which is why he won't miss more.

Sickels, this site rules!!!

Optimism knows no bounds!
Nice optimistic thoughts, but remember that if a player is put on the DL, it's for a minimum of 15 days.  Otherwise they're just inactive.  They can, however, be on the DL for more than 15 days, just not less.

Can I also predict that the Twins will win the division every year until at least 2011? Oops, guess I just did.

Mr. Sickels: what do you think of Alex Romero? Could he either play CF or hit 28-30 homers some day for Minny? Thanks!

If he was healthy, I'd predict 35-40 HR.  But since it looks like he might start a little slow, I'll tune my prediction down a tad to

.280/.349/.491, 15 days on the DL

that's still 30 HR, as I think he's going to have a monster 2nd half.

Good first full year
.265/.345/.500

I agree that his difficult off-season will affect his endurance this year, but I don't necessarily agree that it'll affect him right at the beginning of the season. It's March 7th today, not April 7th. I think he'll start the year on a high, but hit a wall sometime in the 1st half.

Besides, I'm more worried about Mauer's knee :)

best guess
I'm guessing his weird series of illnesses this winter will affect him at the start of the season, and then kill him down the stretch endurance-wise.  If he was totally healthy, I'd say .298/.366/.603.  Since he won't be, I'll downgrade him to .285/.361/.554/30 days on the DL.

ZERO time on the DL.  So he had a few teeth(wisdom) removed, so he had a little lung infection(pleurisy & pneumonia), so he had a little tummy-ache(appendicitis)...what was my point?

An interesting side-bar.  I was at the Metrodome last year for a Twins game.  Mourneau hit a foul ball down the 3rd baseline over my head.  I could hear the ball "sizzle" as it went over my head.  It was the oddest sound I ever heard.

i think i'm being nice here to a rookie in batting in the middle of a twins line-up. Though he still gets ROY, if Jeremy R. or Dallas M. don't go out and dominate

Seeing as how Morneau had over 300 plate appearances last season, I doubt he'll be in contention for ROY.

No ROY for Morneau - he doesn't qualify. Too much service time.

I love him and think he will have a big second half, but don't underestimate his illness. I watched Sizemore last season and he seemed a shadow of himself (viral infection?).

15 days on DL but he'll miss a lot more time against tough lefties as Gardy lets him grow into those ABs over the next year or two. With LeCroy around there's no need to feed him into the woodchipper when monsters like Randy Johnson are pitching.  I see about 450-500 PAs in 145 games where he pinch hits in games he doesn't start.
