Daric Barton out with Appendicitis

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=mlb&id=2001607

Str. off the AP Wire.

PHOENIX -- Oakland Athletics catching prospect Daric Barton was taken to a hospital Sunday night with appendicitis and was scheduled to have surgery.

Team spokesman Jim Young said Barton is expected to return to camp sometime this spring. He had already been limited with an elbow injury.

Barton was acquired by the A's in December from St. Louis in the trade that sent ace Mark Mulder to the NL champion Cardinals.

Daric update
Daric was operated on a few hours ago. He will not hit again until sometime in April. It will set him back 3 or 4 months, but, he'll be OK.

Daric
Based on Adrian Beltre's experience.

In 2001 Adrian Beltre. Beltre missed much of spring training and the early part of the season with appendicitis and associated complications.

By the way, what's your guess? 3 or 4 days?

Beltre
Had a botched operation.  It was so bad, it really wiped out his whole year.  I think he problems with infection and they ended up cutting on him again to repair some stuff that wasn't done right.  I think 2-3 months is about right as long as everything went well.  Everyone is different, we'll just have to see.

He can start
working out after 1-3 weeks, and they hope to get him some time in spring training.

New modern
I had my appendix removed the "old fashioned" way. Barton's operation was a novel "arthoscopic" appendectomy that will allow him to recover much faster.

Dude
3-4 months? Yeah, if Dr. Nick from the Simpsons performed the operation. He'll probably be able to play half of ST

MLB?
Was he expected to start the season on the A's?  I think I heard something about a switch to 1B or DH to get him in the lineup quicker, but I doubt this really does anything to his timetable to get to the big leagues...maybe I'm missing something

Cool
OK.....3 or 4 weeks it is. My bad. That's good news because I have him on my minor league team.
