Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

top minor league teams in 06 as far as pitching.

Throw out your teams top projected starting 5 at whatever level you feel they have the best talent.

For my team the Twins, I'm going to say Fort Myers High A ball rotation.

  1. Anthony Swarzak
  2. Kevin Slowey
  3. Jay Rainville
  4. Matt Garza
  5. Jose Mijares/Kyle Waldrop/Kyle aselton
Should be a very stout rotation.

Have it now with your fav team, what are the good deep rotations in the minors and teams to watch in 06'.

Thanks and have a good day.

Vastly underrated and unknown pitchers

by The Rocc on Dec 12, 2005 1:48 PM EST reply actions

He may start higher...
...but if you replace Wlodarczyk with Chris Mason, you can make a pretty good case for them.  Various levels with the Twins, Dodgers and Marlins (as already mentioned) could be quite strong as well.

more hyped than "Generation K"
everyone is probably sick of hearing about the Jacksonville Suns but i think their pitching staff deserves mention:

Chad Billinglsey
Johnathan Broxton
Justin Orenduff
Greg Miller
Hong-Chih Kuo
Luis Gonzalez? (2nd pick in the rule 5 draft)

by sanchez101 on Dec 12, 2005 2:13 PM EST reply actions

Broxton
Eventually, will Broxton be a reliever or a starter?

by tbac on Dec 12, 2005 2:37 PM EST up reply actions

Reliver I'd say
and probably in LA.  100+ mph fastball sort of puts you on the fasttrack to the show
"Chuck Lamar, you're fired"- Stuart Sternburg.

by Tyler on Dec 12, 2005 3:57 PM EST up reply actions

either way
i havent heard of a good reason to see why Broxton couldnt handle starting, he could be a front line starter.  John did list him as the 2nd best pitching prospect in the system coming into 2005, before he was even thought of as a reliever.  I think that the Dodgers will give him a chance to win a spot in the bullpen, and if he wins one hell stay there.  Unless he really takes off as a reliever (like Gagne) i think that at some point in the next couple of years the Dodgers will need a starter mid-season and will move him back to a starting role.

Toledo
Depending on what the Tigers decide to do with Verlander and Zumaya, the 'Hens rotation could be stacked.  I assume one of the two will make the big club's rotation, but let's assume they don't...

Justin Verlander
Joel Zumaya
Kenny Baugh
Wilfredo Ledezma
NRI

You could also be looking at Jordan Tata and/or Humberto Sanchez joining the AAA rotation by midseason.

Elbert
Once Billz graduates I am sure that Elbert will take his spot in the rotation.  And he isn't too bad.

elbert
elberts going to start the year at vero. if he is dominating by july, he'll get the callup to jax.

albuquerque isotopes
if sergio mitre starts the season in the marlins rotation, the AAA team could look like this:
  1. Josh Johnson
  2. Yusmeiro Petit
  3. Ricky Nolasco
  4. Anibal Sanchez
  5. Renyel Pinto
We have, I fear, confused power with greatness.

are we talking --prospect or results
If purely results in 06'

Sacramento river Cats

Dan Meyer
John Rhieneker
Mario Ramos
Chad Gaudin
Matt Roney

Should be AA to start but will end year in AAA
dallas Braden and Jason Windsor

No real "prospects" short or Meyer (maybe)but these guy should all abuse AAA hitters with there experience.

by novaoakland on Dec 12, 2005 4:05 PM EST reply actions

Alright, I give up....
why is Chad Gaudin so commonly brushed off as a "non-prospect"?

Personally, I'm logging him as a rotisserie sleeper as soon as this year.

by BobbyMac on Dec 12, 2005 5:35 PM EST up reply actions

He maybe
But I think as far as people on this site are concerned he is a non-enity and did not really want to get in a fight over that. wanted to make my point that SAC Rivercats are going to have a really nice staff.

by novaoakland on Dec 12, 2005 6:02 PM EST up reply actions

Gaudin
is going to make his mark with the A's. Toronto is going to regret this move.
Patience is for those who die waiting for something to happen.

Please tell me more ....
I mean he is still young and very intriguing but I would be very interested to hear about his stuff which I know little about.

by novaoakland on Dec 13, 2005 12:27 AM EST up reply actions

Komine?
No love for Shane Komine?  I think he will factor in to Sacramento's rotation.  One of my personal favorites given his 5'8" frame.

by tbac on Dec 13, 2005 1:06 AM EST up reply actions

Hey
I had him in Oakland. Kidding aside just another example of the ridiculous depth the A's have in SAC.

Again while they may not be elite prospects they will abuse AAA hitters.

Mostly college guys who can move fast or even start a level higher with Vince Perkins and Josh Banks at AAA.  Chance Brandon League and Dustin McGowan might start at AAA as well.

Rios is the next Juan Gonzales, thats right, I said it.

by KaoticKlown on Dec 12, 2005 6:28 PM EST reply actions

I wish they played in New Brighton...
...unfortunately, it's New Britain. :-).

Seriously, I think the Fort Myers rotation will look like this:

Rainville
Swarzak
Aselton
Slowey
Waldrop/Garza

New Britain's should look like this:
Perkins/Blackburn
Harben
Mijares
Jones
Simonitsch

Either Blackburn or Perkins will likely start at AAA, probably Blackburn since he had a few appearences there in 2004. Either Waldrop or Garza will stay in Beloit. It's anybody's guess which one will, but I'd choose the younger of the two--Waldrop.

I'd take those rotations as my top two in the minors, but I'm biased. Between them, you've got two first rounders, two sandwich picks, three second rounders and a top arm from Venezuela.

Fort Myers/New Britain
Its the guys who WON'T crack those rotations that tell the tale.

Actually, I wouldn't be suprised if Aselton is in the pen to make room for both Garza and Waldrop, and I also wouldn't be suprised if either Slowey or Swarzak starts in New Britain, or at least gets moved up there quickly to make room for Ryan Mullins in the Fort Myers rotation.

by ericinmadison on Dec 12, 2005 11:04 PM EST up reply actions

How about a possible Frisco rotation?
Thomas Diamond
John Danks
Edison Volquez
Armando Galarraga
and Cody Smith for the 5th spot?

That's a nice rotation no matter who's the fifth guy.

by northtexan95 on Dec 12, 2005 10:21 PM EST reply actions

Trenton Thunder
Philip Hughes
Steven White
Tyler Clippard

Those 3 should anchor the rotation.

TJ Beam he of the recent AFL success along with J Brent Cox will be the top relievers.

by BomberBrian on Dec 13, 2005 9:59 PM EST reply actions

New Britain
I'd go with the New Britain rotaiton which I would project to be:

Glen Perkins
Nick Blackburn
Errol Simonitsch
Adam Harben
Justin Jones

followed closely by Ft. Myers:
Jay Rainville
Anthony Swarzak
Kevin Slowey
Matt Garza
Kyle Aselton

or Beloit:

Kyle Waldrop
Ryan Mullins
Kyle Edlich
Brian Duensing
Adam Hawes

and if Francisco Liriano does not make the Twins opening day roster, he will start in Rochester. (with Boof Bonser, JD Durbin, Dave Gassner and either Levele Speigner or Henry Bonilla) If would think he'd stay down for a month or two at which point he would move up. To fill the spot, one or two of the New Britain guys could move up, and two of the Ft. Myers guys would then move up, and two of the Beloit guys. I think it is possible that both Kyle Aselton and Jose Mijares will start in the bullpen, as will Smit. In other words, I think that the Twins future pitching could be great.

by SethSpeaks on Dec 13, 2005 10:50 PM EST reply actions

One thing's standing out in the comments...
I don't think any team will have four "A and higher" rotations like the Twins (on paper going in to 2006).  The pitching depth is unbelievable in the organization.

As some scout or A mgr or something said, "Most Midwest League teams are lucky to have five legitimate prospects, period...the Beloit Twins had nine legitimate prospect pitchers in 2005."
