Last Call to Pre-Order the 2012 Baseball Prospect Book

2012book_medium

We are sending the 2012 Baseball Prospect Book to the printer today. The book came to 528 pages and contains 1205 player reports.

We need to know how many books to order. This is the final call to be certain to get a print copy of the book. Any orders for print copies that come in after today will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. Although we are printing some extras, if we run out of print copies, we run out, so if you want to be CERTAIN to get a print copy, you MUST order today!

Grade Change: Jose Iglesias

The final grades for the 2012 Baseball Prospect Book are locked down. I could tinker with these forever but Jeri will hit me in the head if I don't turn the final list over to her.

Poll Question

Here's a poll question. I have already made my decision here, but I'm curious how this one would play out among the community.

Of the following Grade B pitching prospects, which one is the best overall prospect? Consider everything, including upside/ceiling, safety, closeness to the majors, etc.

Dellin Betances, RHP, New York Yankees
Daniel Corcino, RHP, Cincinnati Reds
Jarred Cosart, RHP, Houston Astros
Jose Fernandez, RHP, Miami Marlins
Taylor Guerrieri, RHP, Tampa Bay Rays
Robert Stephenson, RHP, Cincinnati Reds
Jordan Swagerty, RHP, St. Louis Cardinals

Grade Change: Garrett Richards

Grade change: I'm moving Garrett Richards of the Los Angeles Angels from a Grade B+ to a Grade B. Although it is a very strong Grade B. I had to do this to slot him properly on the Top 50 Pitching list.

Still Working...

Don't expect much content this weekend. The book goes to press Monday. Tuesday I will rationalize all the Top 20 lists to account for trades and start working on organization rankings.

There will be a lot of new content starting next week as we lead up to spring training. And there are other things in the works for 2012. Thanks for your patience. It will all be worth it.

Progress Report

I am working on the Top 50 Hitters and Top 50 Pitchers list. The pitchers I have a good grasp on, but for some reason the hitters seem much harder than normal to work with this year.

Grade Changes, January 12, 2012

The main grade change today is Anthony Gose of the Toronto Blue Jays. I had him at a Grade B previously. I've been thinking about this one for a couple of months.

The Journey of Fernando Martinez

The Fernando Martinez Journey

As all prospect watchers are aware, the New York Mets put former top prospect Fernando Martinez on waivers yesterday, essentially giving up on a guy who was supposed to be a star. Constant injuries have been a big factor in his failure to develop, although he was also moved very aggressively through the farm system. The Houston Astros claimed him on waivers his afternoon.

I thought it would be interesting to go back and track Martinez's trek through the Mets system.
