Fake Teams Fantasy Baseball Chat Tonight at 9pm EST

Yes, I am holding my weekly Wednesday evening fantasy baseball chat tonight over at Fake Teams, so stop on over and ask any fantasy baseball question you may have, whether it is a question about our position rankings, a keeper question, or if you are pondering an offseason trade.

I will probably start a few minutes early, so head on over a little before 9pm EST.

Which pair of prospects would you want?

We have 8-man minor league rosters, and our league tends to value hitting prospects more than pitching prospects. Would you rather have:

Rendon + a prospect from the 50-70 range overall (looking at the community list, someone like Zach Lee, Tyrell Jenkins, Jedd Gyorko, or Starling Marte, among others)

or. . . Skaggs + the number 5 pick (either Cole, Bundy or Hultzen).

Rendon could either be a franchise player in this league or he could bring an excellent return in trade this year. On the other hand, if Skaggs plus the #5 pick both turn into top of the rotation guys, that would be really valuable as well.

Which pair would you want?

Thanks.

Please "Like" my Fan Cave clip

I view this site regularly and have posted a few times in this past. I'd really appreciate your support in helping me win a spot in the 2012 MLB Fan Cave. This is what I've been sending to all of my social networks:

The support that I've received in less than 12 hours has been unbelievable, and I'm going to attribute all of that to people viewing my clip and realizing just what a huge baseball fan I am. Until the winners have been picked, there are a few things you can still do to help me.

1. View the clip on youtube if you haven't already done so. Here's the link: tinyurl.com/getcooptothecave-com"]tinyurl.com/getcooptothecave-com. Once you've viewed the clip please remember to "Like" it.

2. Spread the word among all of your friends on facebook, twitter, collecting sites, your job, etc. The more "Likes" I can get the better shot I have at winning this thing.

3. Add the "Mark Cooper fan page" as your friend on Facebook and post a positive comment.

Obviously, I think I deserve this. But even if I'm not chosen, I had fun putting everything together. At least I'm in the game, right?.

Pitches per start in MiLB

Often so much is made about pitch counts in the major leagues especially with younger pitchers. Similarly pitchers in the minors are sometimes said to be held to strict pitch counts as well. Yet for as much importance is placed on this statistic, you rarely if ever see it reported anywhere unless a pitchers throws some obscene amount of pitches in a ball game. Does anyone know of a good site that lists the number a pitches a pitchers throws in his minor league games? Without having to go box score by box score of course. Thanks in advance for the help.

AA and MLB hitting production by AA batters between 1995-2002

I felt like posting this for both BBB and Minor League Ball.

I put together a spreadsheet of all batters that hit in AA seasons between 1995 and 2002, and their MLB stats (minimum 100 MLB PA). I only included the batters' MLB production if they followed the criteria: The batters were less than 26 years of age and had a minimum of 400 PA in their AA season(s). This is the spreadsheet I put together using numbers from B-R and Fangraphs (Glove tap to those two):

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnAFMTj7pea8dFBtVnZBSUMzYzQyYXM0UWx3a3BkZmc#gid=0

More after the jump.

Young backstops

Who would you rather own in a dynasty league with no contract limitations: Devin Mesoraco or Travis d'Arnaud?

Both of these catchers appear to be on the path of stardom at their respective positions. However, I haven't found much material in the way of comparing the two directly. Does one have a distinct advantage or disadvantage over the other? Who is more likely to produce with the bat?

Mesoraco should see a decent amount of playing time this season as only Ryan Hanigan is blocking him from free reign at the position. However, Dusty Baker loves his vets and so he will likely platoon until he's proved he's absolutely ready.

On the other hand, d'Arnaud is blocked by Arencibia at the major league level and has only just finished a year in AA ball. However, Arencibia's lack of approach and ability to hit for average is a pretty legitimate issue and a regular player with an OBP of less than .300 is not going to cut it in the AL East, or anywhere for that matter. So, in short, Arencibia isn't as big a threat as he may initially appear in regards to playing time for Travis.

Either way, both appear strong candidates to catch the majority of their respective teams games at the major league level in 2013.

But....

Who has the better career with the bat? And for bonus points, what makes them different? (Post the latter in the comment section)

Thanks!!
