A's MOD #1: The Beginnering

The A’s have two first round picks, 6 and 37, and an early second round pick at 47. That means they’ll have some money to work with either in the later rounds or in the early rounds. For the sake of this exercise, that money will be worked with in the early rounds. This will be a pretty volatile draft from the get go since there’s a few directions the Phillies could go as well as the Braves. Guys the A’s have been linked to like Senzel and Moniak and Ray could all be gone or none could be gone by the A’s pick. Then there’s the uber college performer Zack Collins and if you believe he’s worthy of the #6 pick. He’s had comparisons to Schwarber but I’m not sure he’s as athletic. Obviously the goal is to take the best player available but the idea of who’s the best player is kind of muddled. Moniak has below average power, Rutherford is 19, Ray might be a left fielder, Senzel might not have enough power for a 3B, Zack Collins isn’t too athletic, Kyle Lewis strikes out a shit ton, high school pitchers are high risk in general.

My list would probably go something like

Justin Groome

Riley Pint

Delvin Perez

Corey Ray

Nick Senzel

Mickey Moniak

AJ Puk

Kyle Lewis

Blake Rutherford

I would love to see Dakota Hudson have a couple of few fantastic starts to end May, I really think he could be a dark horse for the #6 spot and be a very good pitcher. I'm also sure that AJ Puk won't make it to the A's despite having him ranked #7
