2014 Big Board

I officially have draft fever. Here is my big board of my top 150 prospects. Please feel free to debate. I also gave a "dollar sign on the muscle" for each of the 7 figure bonus guys. This is the maximum amount that I would offer them, not necessarily what I would offer them. For example, Jeff Hoffman doesn't have much leverage, so I might offer him $2 M, but if I drafted the guy that would be as far as I would be willing to go to get the deal done. You can compare these values to here.

For me Rodon and Aiken are 1 and 1A. Both are legit 1-1 candidates, although neither is a slam dunk guy. They are pretty equal, as reflected by the bonuses. I have watched probably watched about 15-20 of Rodon's starts since his Freshman year, and a few live starts as well. I am familiar with all his strengths and his weakness. There is no doubt the fastball command needs to improve and he needs to hold the velocity with more consistency, but at the end of the day his hellacious slider, competitive mentality, and fastball life are just off the charts. They are simply not comparable to any other amateur I have ever seen. And the change, all though he doesn't throw it much, is underrated. He is not a perfect prospect, but his his struggles this year have been over blown. He really has had a damn good year when everything around him on his team was blowing up. Gerrit Cole had a much worse season when he went 1-1 and never faced the same criticism.

Another guy who I am still really high on is Hoffman. Having seen him on the Cape, he is a really special arm, a potential No. 2 starter. I am not surprised about the TJ-- in fact I wrote earlier this year that that could be a problem based on his "inverted W" delivery. But at the end of the day, TJ doesn't really change much for me. This is a fairly good time to get it done too because he wouldn't be pitching now anyway, and under the old system he wouldn't probably have made his pro debut until next year anyway. He is really only missing 2-3 months of development. Obviously there is more risk of a second TJ, but hey, who isn't at risk anymore?

Please offer criticism, praise, whatever. Let's talk draft.

P.S. I think the Astros draft Aiken.
