Giants - MOD #3

Final MOD. A "War Room" will be posted day of mock. As usual... there is no fighting in the war room gentlemen.

Prep for the war room: Survival kit contents check. In them you'll find: one forty-five caliber automatic; two boxes of ammunition; four days' concentrated emergency rations; one drug issue containing antibiotics, morphine, vitamin pills, pep pills, sleeping pills, tranquilizer pills; one miniature combination Russian phrase book and Bible; one hundred dollars in rubles; one hundred dollars in gold; nine packs of chewing gum; one issue of prophylactics; three lipsticks; three pair of nylon stockings. Shoot, a fella' could have a pretty good weekend in Vegas with all that stuff.

Four slots:

1/14: $2,613,200
2/52: $1,066,900
3/87: $622,300
4/118: $440,600

First Round Target List (ranked) (10 names):

Touki Touissant - Michael Chavis - Grant Holmes - Max Pentecost - Kyle Freeland - Brad Zimmer - Trea Turner - Sean Reid-Foley - Monte Harrison/Derek Hill Dark Horse: Spencer Adams

Arguments welcome. Personally I would put SRF ahead of Freeland/Zimmer/Turner but I'm trying to be democratic here, and I also enjoy Roger's thirst for the HS toolsy upside high risk gambles. Zimmer ain't safe there is what I'm sayin'...

Second Round Target List (ranked by position) (7 names each): (assumes the following pitchers are scooped: Spencer Adams, Luis Ortiz, Forrest Griffin, Mac Marshall, Scott Blewett, Keith Weisenberg, Justus Sheffield (the last 2 being very hard signs) - and following hitters are scooped: Forrest Wall, Ti’Quan Forbes and Marcus Wilson. Nobody with the name Forrest gets out of the supplemental. Run, Forrest, Run!)

Hitters: Brian Anderson 2B/OF Arkansas; Alexis Pantojas SS PR HS; Cole Tucker SS AZ HS; Josh Morgan SS CA HS; Aramis Garcia C FL Int; Alex Blandino 3B Stanford; Dylan Davis OSU OF

Pitchers: Jacob Lindgren LHP MS ST; Keaton McKinney, RHP Iowa HS; Daniel Gossett, RHP Clemson; Garrett Fulenchek, RHP TX HS; Joseph Gatto RHP NJ HS; Cody Reed LHP AK HS; Grant Hockin RHP CA HS; Carson Sands LHP FL HS with Jake Cosart RHP JC as the dark horse, and one more that might be more 3rd round: James Norwood RHP St Louis

Note on pitching: you can see there is a lot more pitching than hitting. 2nd round assignment: do we like any of these SS's enough to step up?

Third Round Target List (ranked by position) (7 names each)

Hitters:Taylor Sparks 3B UCI; Greyson Greiner C USC; Joey Pankake 3B USC; Matt Chapman 3B CSF; AJ Reed 1B Kentucky

Pitchers: Nick Howard RHP UVA; Jeff Brigham RHP UW; Jake Stinnett RHP MD; Matt Imhof LHP Cal Poly; Chris Ellis RHP Ole Miss; Erik Skogland LHP Central Florida; Andrew Suarez LHP Miami; Devin Smeltzer, LHP NJ HS; Ryder Ryan RHP NC HS - two HS guys with profiles I think could be 3rd round moneys.

Fourth Round Target List (ranked by position) (7 names each)

Hitters: Brandon Downes, CF UVA; Mark Zagunis, C VA TECH; Boo Vasquez, OF Pitt; Hunter Cole, OF Georgia; Jordan Lupnow OF Fresno State; Zach Fish OF OK ST; Dustin DeMuth 3B Indiana

Pitchers: Daniel Mengden RHP Texas A&M;Wyatt Strahan RHP USC; Austin Davis LHP Bakersfield; Brett Graves RHP Missouri; Ben Wetzler LHP OSU; Chad Sabotka RHP SC Upstate; Jared Ruxer RHP Louisville

3rd and 4th rounds will have sinks and swims. It will get chaotic and fun.

Rules: 1. To go HS in the 3rd/4th you have to flash an extremely good argument. 2. We aren't chasing current or historical TJ guys in the 1-3, maybe in the 4th but most likely not. 3. We don't chase 1B profiles until the 3rd or 4th.

Carve up these lists, lets make them final by Friday. If there's a guy you want in there, speak up. If there's a guy you can't stand, speak up.

I don't think we should draft for need, but the obvious strength of the Giants is pitching. There are a lot of starters, and a lot of relievers. There aren't many position player prospects, especially lacking in the OF and 1B. Pretty strong at catcher, some interesting scrappers at SS. Something to keep in mind. Personally I think we should be looking to get a stud pitching prospect to really tie everything together. But you can't force that issue, you have to take what's there for you at the pick. It is tempting to want to chase a potential 5 tool OF, but the concept of getting a safe pick is a good one. On the hitting side there are are couple that might do pretty well.
