Hi all, As many of you know i'm a Minn. Twins fan, but from not so far away, i've admired the Rockies and their succes for a while now, stemming from the great Larry Walker, Matt Holliday, Todd Helton run in the mid 2000's that team went all the way to and almost won the World Series.
In 2014 , the MLB club looks more than positioned to contend all year long, with the likes of Tulo , Blackmon , Arenado and CarGo leading the way offensively, with probably the most potent if not the Very Best offense in the entire National league. (Cuddyer, Morneau, W. Rosario, Wheeler among others)
When looking at the Rockies minor league system, It is apparent they are pretty rich in pitching depth. Last years Huge selection Jonathan Gray, and little flamethrower Eddie Butler head their riches; while Tyler Anderson , Tyler Matzek, Sam Moll and Jaysen Aquino provide depth from the LH side. Chad Bettis i believe, is breaking in the Rox bullpen this May.
So preferably, I would like a position player in round 1, And not H.S. or College or SS or Catcher, or CF..... Simply put the BPA , Best-player-available, not really accounting for position.
Picking 8th in the first round.
I pretty clearly see a good prospect or two falling to the Rockies or just sitting right there for the taking.
I'm sure Tyler Kolek, Brady Aiken, and Carlos Rodon will all be gone as the top arms of this draft will be taken early. That leaves Nick Gordon, Alex Jackson , Touki Toussaint , Kyle Freeland, Erick Fedde , Austin Nola, Tyler Beade, and Trea Turner as options for the Rockies; No, not all of these guys will be there at # 8 ....But im forecasting maybe half of them as realistic options for Colorado.
Should Jacob Gatewood or Nic Burdi gain any steam in the top 10?
Will any of those names be a tough sign at pick no. 8? The first 3 being H.S. prep stars sign for slot? What do you guys think?
Having more alloted money available for later picks in the draft is always nice, but not something im neccisarily targeting.
