The Charlotte Knights, AAA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, will open their new ballpark tonight. The Uptown location (Charlotte calls it's skyscraper district Uptown, not Downtown - yet for the Charlotte area, it's pretty centrally located in an ever widening set of concentric circles of suburbs.)
I've been covering the construction for Stadium Journey, and will be out there tonight for the first game. It's a beautiful ballpark, with amazing views of the city. I've taken 2 pre-construction tours of the park, and I have no doubt that it will be one of the top 5 facilities of it's kind in the country.
So, some pre-game questions for the crowd...
When you visit a new ballpark, what are the items you look for?
What's the first thing that really sets your first impression?
Food options: Is it key to start a visit with a dog and a beer, or do you go straight for the wacky food items? Charlotte probably won't be too innovative out of the gate, while they focus on the basics, but I'm looking forward to local fave Queen City Q's ball park rendition of barbecue.
Let me know what you'd like to see, and I'll post fan shots an a mini review here tomorrow.
The official Stadium Journey review will be here.
