Houston Astros Preliminary Prospect List: Reprise

Jonathan Singleton - USA TODAY Sports

I was hoping that a few days away would make the decisions with the Houston Astros prospect list easier to make, but alas that proves not to be the case. There is so much depth here in C+ type prospects that getting this below 50, let alone below 40 or at 35 seems impossible.

Anyway, I have worked on this a few more hours and here is the current list, with a brief note about each player indicating that he is either a super-lock 100% must be included, lock meaning at least a 90% chance, or is a borderline guy who could be cuttable but has at least one reason why he could merit inclusion over others:

Houston Astros 46 players

Japhet Amador 1B  borderline but an Interesting story, close to majors
Andrew Aplin OF   lock
Mark Appel RHP    super-lock
Jake Buchanan RHP  borderline, but close to majors, throws strikes, survived PCL intact.
Carlos Correa SS  super-lock
MP Cokinos 1B   borderline, Lancaster guy but hit well on the road too, kills lefties, good plate discipline
Luis Cruz LHP   borderline, high ERA but good components at Lancaster, did great in Double-A.
Delino DeShields JR 2B  super-lock
Bobby Doran RHP  borderline but close to majors, have been watching him since college and have good data.
Kent Emanuel LHP  lock
Michael Feliz RHP    super-lock
Mike Foltynewicz RHP  super-lock
Nolan Fontana 2B   lock
Jandel Gustave RHP  lock
Josh Hader LHP    lock
Tyler Heineman C   borderline, stats boosted by Lancaster but skilled defender.
Leonardo Heras OF  borderline, but like Amador I want to include him and talk about the Mexican League
Teoscar Hernandez OF  somewhere between lock and borderline; great tools and I have good data
Brian Holmes LHP: borderline but I have really good scouting data on him from Midwest League
Adrian Houser RHP  lock
Tony Kemp 2B  borderline but a good solid college player that people might want to know about
Chris Lee LHP: lock seems borderline but not really, good arm, good ratios,
Jason Martin OF: borderline, was just in rookie ball but good scouting reports
Lance McCullers JR RHP: super-lock
Brandon Meredith OF  borderline: Lancaster boosted his numbers and old for level
Jacob Nottingham C  borderline, did not hit well in rookie ball but gets good scouting reports
Brett Phillips OF  borderline, uninspiring low-A and rookie numbers but gets good scouting reports
James Ramsay OF  on edge between lock and borderline, a lot of people like him but didn't blast NY-P
Brady Rogers RHP  lock
David Rollins LHP   lock
Rio Ruiz 3B    super-lock
Domingo Santana OF  super-lock
Jonathan Singleton 1B   super-lock
Kyle Smith RHP   lock
George Springer OF   super-lock
Max Stassi C    super-lock
Andrew Thurman RHP   lock
Ronald Torreyes 2B  borderline; I doubt he ever hits much but defense and proximity to majors
Nick Tropeano RHP  lock
Preston Tucker OF   lock
Danry Vazquez OF   lock
Vince Velasquez RHP   super-lock
Austin Mr.300 Wates OF  borderline; has lost ground in much deeper system, but still hits .300 everywhere, close to the majors, and I think he can surprise us if healthy
Aaron West RHP   lock
Kyle Westwood RHP   borderline: low strikeout rate in NY-P, but gets lots of grounders, good scouting reports
Asher Wojciechowski RHP  super-lock

This is open for discussion and comment but my goal is to get this list finalized tonight.
