This is my first go 'round in the Mock Draft. I don't have to tell you picking in front of Sickels and the Twins places immense pressure on the picks, and you can expect that any material he publishes on Minor League Ball from here on forward is meant to obfuscate and mislead the Rockies' Front Office.
Speaking of Front Office, I am looking to fill a couple of positions with capable folks. While I certainly have been following the prospects and the development of this draft class, I am by no means an expert, and my strength lies in having just enough knowledge to be dangerous (okay - I am pretty good at guiding a group to consensus while making the tough call if consensus can't be reached). To that end, I am looking for the following volunteers:
Director of Scouting: This is truly my right-hand man/woman. This means that I give the highest deference to this person's opinions on matters concerning players when setting up the draft board and making that tough call. I would prefer this person also be available on draft day (June 1 12PM CST btw), but that is not a requirement.
Assistant GM: This person does need to be available on draft day in the event that an Act of God (or, you know, someone turning off the internet) makes it impossible for me to be present on draft day. This person will also have a strong role on the scouting side, essentially acting as GM whenever I am unable to take the lead.
If you wish to fill one of these roles please post below and I will follow up. I want to give some time so we can get the word out before making a decision. To this end, promoting this project on PR to ensure participation is encouraged.
Of course, everyone will have a role and their opinions given due credit. My general strategy is BPA through the first four rounds, so the bulk of the work will be in setting up the draft board and then I will simply be the guy who walks the name to the podium.
Right now for the top pick I have Gray/Appel/Bryant in that order. Let the discussion begin.
