2013 MLB Draft: Central Region Report

With the cold spring, many of these players have struggled to get on the field. Manaea has been fighting a hip issue. Boldt has hardly played due to weather and a knee. Brentz and Ball have shown improvement and I wouldn't be surprised to hear any of the top nine names in the first round.

1. Sean Manaea, P, JR, 40/60: Big arm up to 97 with a knockout slider at times. Dominant when on. Has had hip issue all spring.

2. Ryan Boldt, OF, HS, 35/60: All around well balanced player with no true elite tools. Slashing swing that is geared for ripping line drives. Just signed on to play with Rochester Honkers in Northwoods League.

3. Jake Brentz, P, SR, 35/60: Fast riser with mid 90's fastball. Touched 97. Good athlete with fresh arm.

4. Trey Ball, OF, HS, 35/60: Great athlete. Higher ceiling on the mound but power projetion as an outfielder is impressive.

5. Devin Williams, P, HS, 35/60: long, loose and easy delivery. Breaking ball is ok. Shows a change.

6. Tom Windle, P, JR, 45/50: Polished mid to back of the rotation guy. Good slider, change. Low 90's fastball but no out pitch.

7. Clinton Hollon, P, HS, 25/60: Erratic due to various injuries over the last year. Can throw upper 90's when on. Atheltic. Could be much higer than this.

8. Eric Jagielo, OF, JR, 35/50: very good power potential. Not sold o nthe hit tool or if he can stick at 3b.

9. Logan Shore, P, HS, 30/55: peaks at 92. Average secondary's. Minor adjustments to delivery could help stuff play up.

10. Michael O'Neill, OF, JR, 35/50: good all around talent with no elite tools. Plays under his tools a lot. Needs refinement.

11. A.J. Puk, P, HS, 30/50: tall lefty, kinda awkward. Big potential.

12. Hunter Green, P, HS, 30/50: athletic lefty with low 90's velo. Below average breaking ball at this point.

13. Josh Dezse, P, JR, 25/60: power all the way, arm and at the plate. Upper 90's closer type. Stress reaction in back held him out all year, essentially. Just had successful surgery. Likely back for senior year.

14. Chuckie Robinson, C, HS, 35/50: Short powerful swing. Kind of mechanical but good power potential.

15. Max Knutson, P, HS, 30/50: lefty that touches 92 with potential for more.

16. Josh Uhen, P, SO, 30/50: up to mid 90's. erratic track record

17. Cassidy Brown, C, HS, 30/50: Good swing. Solid behind the plate.

18. Jackson Lamb, OF, HS, 30/55: Great athlete. Has hit 93 but works upper 80's. Good two way player.

19. Brad Schreiber, P, SR, 30/50: Up to 92. Good sldier. Coming off of TJ, more in the tank. Could be a sleeper.

20. Dace Kime, P, JR, 35/50: up to 94 with a good breaking ball. Reliever

21. Trevor Gott, P, JR, 35/50: 90-94 fastball with nice slider but more of a reliever than dominant closer.

22. Jared King, 1B, JR, 40/45: All bat. Needs to hit a lot to be a good player

23. Connor Heady, SS, HS, 30/50: fast. Good defender. Gap to gap guy.

24. Zach Burdi, P, HS, 30/50: really fast arm up to 91. Harsh arm action. His brother was similar two years ago, now hitting 100.

25. D.J. Snelten, P, JR, 30/50: I haven't seen him at his best which is up to 95. He was nowhere near that when I saw him.

26. Andy Honiotes, P, HS, 30/50: quick arm with a lot of potential. Up to 92.

27. Jeff Thompson, P, JR, 35/50: Big frame. Barrel chested. Up to 92 but striaght. Nice slider. Could be a very good reliever or back end starter

28. Derek Burkamper, P, HS, 30/50: sits 90-92 with a good breaking ball. Very projecatable.

29. Zach Farmer, P, HS, 35/50: Clean lefty mechanics. Up to 92. Projection

30. J.T. Riddle, 2B, JR, 40/45: Nice swing. Not much power. Good enough athlete to play 2B at the next level.

31. Pat Biondi, OF, SR, 35/40: fast catalyst type. Likely 4th OF but can play CF well.

32. Corey Ray, OF, HS, 30/45: toolsy athelte with a line drive orienrted swing.

33. Dan Slania, P, JR, 35/50: good fastball /slider mix. Reliever

34. Tyler Skulina, P, JR, 35/45: up to 94. Needs work on secondary's.

35. Dakota Freese, P, SO, 35/45: fastball up to 92 with nice breaking ball

36. Adam Engel, OF, JR, 35/45: fast. can play CF well. Maybe good 4th OF playing all 3 positions.

37. Dustin DeMuth, 3B, JR, 35/45: Good defender. Nice swing but has shown no power.

38. Michael Suiter, OF, SO, 25/45: Good athelte but totally overwhelmed at the plate.

39. Jerad Grundy, P, SR, 25/45: Pitchability lefty can get up to 92.

40. Alex Lakatos, P, JR, 30/45: Big guy with low 90's fastball. Nice slider on occasion. reliever

41. Albert Minnis, P, JR, 25/45: Upper 80's but good 4 pitch mix.

42. Corey Littrell, P, JR, 40/45: Haven't seen him break 90 this season but good pitchability.

43. Nick Petree, P, JR, 35/45: dominant college pitcher deosn't have the stuff to impact at next level

44. Drew Dosch, 3B, JR, 25/45: long swing. Swing and miss but some power potential

45. Kelly Norris-Jones, C, JR, 25/40:
