Padres (Long-delayed) MOD #3: Special MOD-ifications

We may not look like much, but we've got it where it counts.

So I've been doing a lot of thinking and I've decided that we need to look for more impact than we've been discussing. I like J.P. Crawford (who gets mocked to us all the time), but he's more solid regular than star. The pitching crop is also pretty flat this year and I don't see much to get excited about early unless we really love Phil Bickford's raw upside, which we don't.

My new favorite for our first pick is prep C Jon Denney. Iffy proposition at catcher but the bat is very good. I decided to throw Billy McKinney back into our mix as he's very Dahl-ish and we went with him last year, so why not? Third is Hunter Dozier - I'm looking heavily at prep players for #50 and there's a chance that Dozier is actually underrated. Top three. Any thoughts? Neither of these guys?

At 50 I think we'll have a good look at a potential impact prep player. Our target is northeastern prep outfield Tom Milone, who has ridiculous tools and will be on the board at this point. He's very underrated. I'd like to say Andy McGuire here, but signability is shaping up to be an issue and he might even go before us on here anyway as the mock drafts published on this site have all had him going very good. I like Riley Unroe and Dustin Peterson as well, but both have their stocks jump in the last couple of weeks and neither seem like a good bet to be available.

Thoughts on 68?
